We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexi Galvan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lexi, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to become a disabled model to help other people with physical disabilities see that we are still beautiful! I know the impact a spinal cord injury can have on your self image, especially when you’re a teenager.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was told at only 15 years old I would never breathe or walk on my own again, I couldn’t imagine my life depending on a ventilator until my death bed. About 6 months after I got discharged from my 4 month hospital stay, I went to Craig Hospital to heal whatever I could! I went back and smiled bright in their faces with no ventilator attached to my throat. I remember how shocked yet amazed my first Dr was. At that point I learned that nobody knows my body like I do. Until I die I will continue to push myself, deep down I know I can walk again! I want the world to know anybody’s life can change within a blink of an eye. It’s up to you if you’ll let it break you or make you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As a wheelchair user I now really appreciate places that are accessible. I love my therapy Neuability. I enjoy going to the Flatiron’s mall and eating pretzel bites at Auntie Anne’s. My uncle owns chubbies so of course, I’d take anybody to eat there!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While I was in the hospital my aunt Elaine stood by my side every hour of every day. I wouldn’t have realized my self worth without all of her care and pushing me to work for independence. With her help I built my confidence back up and I’m in a relationship with someone who loves me for who I am. I can never thank my aunt enough for everything she did.
