Meet Lexie Haney | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexie Haney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lexie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been a daydreamer, constantly envisioning grand, wildly ambitious ideas so I knew very early on that a more analytical/data-driven career path wasn’t going to be for me. While I’m not a great painter or sculptor, design felt like a form of creativity that expresses itself in a more attainable way. I find fulfillment in creating spaces where people truly feel seen and understood, a place where they can connect with themselves and with others. For me, pursuing a creative career was a natural extension of this desire to make others feel at home, to help them find their own sense of peace and identity within their surroundings.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Haney House Interiors as a side hustle in 2019 while working full-time under my mentor’s guidance. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was already behind because, at the time, I didn’t have a formal degree in design like so many of my peers. So, I began taking on clients on the side for free in an effort to build my portfolio and make myself marketable to future employers.
I was fortunate to work on some incredible luxury residential projects at my first job, then moved to another company that focused on smaller residential work. I eventually ventured into the commercial side of the industry, dabbling in hotel design for a bit. While I learned so much at each of these roles, I never quite felt that I had full control over the things I was spending so much time working on or creating a healthy work/life balance. I realized I wanted to take the reins myself, which led me to make Haney House Interiors my full-time endeavor.
Since 2022, Haney House has truly been the apple of my eye. I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with amazing clients and build meaningful relationships with local architects and general contractors. It’s been such a rewarding experience that it hardly feels like work. I believe that home is more than just a collection of rooms—it’s a sanctuary where life’s slower, sweeter moments unfold. It’s in the quiet mornings with coffee in hand, the evening laughter shared with loved ones, and the comfort of simply being surrounded by the people and things you love. We’re here to help you create the backdrop for the moments that matter most—the kind of moments that turn a house into a home.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Golden, so most of my favorites are on the west side of the city. We’d start our mornings with a visit to Hearth & Seoul Tea Shop on Tejon Street. I think people are starting to think I’m sponsored by them—I’m not, they’re just truly amazing. I absolutely love everything about this small tea shop; it’s a must-visit in my opinion.
For lunch, we’d head to Moxie Eatery on Broadway for their Falafel Waffle. I can’t even count how many clients I’ve taken here over the years and I’ve never had a disappointing bite. Other restaurant favorites include Trattoria Stella on Colfax, Abrusci’s Fire & Vine, King of Wings, and Seasoned Swine BBQ. Okay, maybe we’d take two visits to Abrusci’s. And, of course, a quick walk across the street to Teller’s Taproom for a whiskey sour. We’re also likely to stop by Goosetown Station in Golden to catch some live music.
For daytime activities, I love a leisurely walk through the neighborhood. We live close to South Table, so we can easily connect to the trails with just a short walk, and the views never get old. If we’re in the mood for a quick getaway outside the city, I love camping in the mountains or heading to southern Wyoming for a more secluded experience. If we’re not leaving the city, we’d catch a sunset from the top of North Table.
That’s one of the things I love most about our city, and a big reason we chose to move here: there’s always an endless array of things to do!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be a designer if it weren’t for my first boss, Bryan Pulte. I’ll never forget the day we met—of all places, at the ballet—and he offered me a trial run. To this day, he remains the most talented designer I’ve ever worked with or for, and I am endlessly grateful for the chance he took on me. And I will always cherish the fun we had together!
I’m also deeply thankful to my family and friends, whose unwavering belief in me continues to lift me up, especially on the days when I can’t quite see it in myself.
