Meet michael ring | Wedding Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with michael ring and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi michael, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The wedding industry gets a bad wrap for seemingly up-charging clients. You’ve probably heard someone say that “if you add the word wedding to it, it’s instantly more expensive.” But the truth is, the wedding industry is one of the few freelance industries that allows people to charge a fair rate for their work. I suspect it’s because a lot of people are afraid to work in the industry, thereby creating more demand for vendors and thus higher wages. I could be wrong, but that’s my sense after about 13 years of observation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a videographer, so just as you’d suspect… I shoot and edit videos. I love making videos, and have for a long time. I think I’m pretty good at it, though it’s a pursuit in which I’ve never stopped learning. There’s always something new to learn. One thing I’ve learned is it’s much easier to get where you want to be if you focus on your goal full-time. A part-time commitment will yield part-time results. I once heard someone say that “the best way to get to where you want to be is slowly.” And as I get older, I feel that the journey teaches you invisible lessons that you wouldn’t learn, if a lot of time wasn’t involved. Challenges come one by one, and sometimes they take weeks, months or even years to figure them out. but you slowly chip away at them, and eventually they disappear, and a new challenge arises. And then at some point, you get used to it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My 3 favorite spots in Colorado are Ouray, Aspen and Steamboat. They all have their pros and cons. I love Ouray for it’s small town feel. It’s a beautiful place and their downtown strip is just enough to give you what you need, but not enough to entertain you. It forces you to find adventure. I like Aspen for it’s beauty and it’s history. I like Steamboat for it’s beauty and dispersed camping. Steamboat in the summer feels like a family road trip stop.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give credit to my then girlfriend (now wife) Kate who believed in me enough to allow me to quit my job while simultaneously signing a lease together on an apartment in Denver.![]()
