We had the good fortune of connecting with Lida Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lida, every day, we know how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for my business came to me later in life (my mid 50’s) —and rather unexpectedly.

I had taken a long and winding professional path, starting in Corporate IT Software. I was successful and liked the work, but over time, I felt like a small cog in a giant machine. I wasn’t making the kind of impact I wanted, and it no longer aligned with my values.

I left that job and began working for a Functional Medicine doctor. Ironically, that experience wasn’t great for my own health. One day, while hiking with a friend and chatting about what I wanted to do next, I said out loud, “I need to be a coach!” We literally stopped on the trail and brainstormed right there. By the time we finished, I had a rough idea of what it could look like.

That moment sparked everything. I enrolled in certification programs to become a Nutritionist, Personal Trainer, and Group Fitness Instructor. I added additional specialties like Weight Loss and Mental Toughness, and later became a Certified Pre-Diabetes Lifestyle Coach—a topic close to my heart due to family health history. Over time, I tied it all together with a comprehensive Health & Wellness Coaching certification.

From that foundation, Head-to-Toe Coaching was born.

The name reflects my belief that health is a fully integrated journey—from our head and how we think, to our heart and how we feel, to our gut and immune system, and all the way to our feet and how we walk through life. The logo—a circle divided into slices representing different areas of wellness—reminds us that health isn’t a destination. It’s an ongoing process, full of growth, intention, and transformation.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
“What is medicine for one person could be poison to another.”

I love that quote—it speaks directly to the core of my work. It reminds us that we are all bio-individual. Just like our fingerprints, our health/life journeys may share similarities, but they are ultimately unique. One thing that sets me apart: I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all wellness.

As a Health and Wellness Coach, Nutritionist, and Personal Trainer, I’m committed to helping each client discover what works for them. I create a judgment-free space, provide just the right amount of accountability, and together, we find the fun in the process. I design personalized systems and strategies that are practical, sustainable, and empowering—built for real life.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. I came into this work later in life, bringing with me a lifetime of experience. Every challenge along the way has shaped me into someone more compassionate, resilient, and equipped with real strategies to stay strong—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

I made a complete pivot from a corporate career to a path that truly aligned with who I am. Facing self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the fear of starting over wasn’t easy—but in that discomfort, I found clarity. I immersed myself in learning, earned multiple certifications, and built a business rooted in my values, mission, and heart.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that real change takes time—and compassion. You can’t rush healing, and it doesn’t come from willpower alone.

Entrepreneurship has also uncovered creative gifts I didn’t know I had—like writing and public speaking—reminding me that growth doesn’t stop at any age or stage.

Head-to-Toe Coaching was born from that understanding: that true wellness touches every part of us—from our minds and hearts to our bodies and everyday choices.

What I want the world to know is this:
You don’t have to do it alone.
You don’t have to squeeze into someone else’s mold.
And when you don’t believe in yourself—know that I believe in you.
You get to choose your path—and I’m here to help you walk it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You’ve got to get into the mountains! A trip to Rocky Mountain National Park is a must—it’s absolutely stunning and well worth the drive. But if you’re looking to stay more local, there are plenty of beautiful trails and outdoor spaces nearby. Two of my favorite hikes are Picture Rock Trail and Rabbit Mountain in Lyons—they’re scenic, peaceful, and a perfect way to enjoy Colorado’s natural beauty.

For a more relaxed day, a stroll along Pearl Street in Boulder is always a hit. With fun shops, street performers, and a wide variety of restaurants, it’s a great way to soak in the local vibe.

I’d also recommend spending time in Old Town Longmont, a hidden gem full of charming boutiques, cozy coffee shops, and creative spaces. We love dining at The Roost or The Pump House—both have fantastic food and a great atmosphere.

And of course, a trip into Denver offers even more to explore—whether it’s catching a theater show, cheering at a sports venue, or trying one of the city’s many amazing restaurants.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Most importantly, I want to thank my husband for riding the waves of building a new business—the highs and the not-so-highs. He’s been my editor, sounding board, and unwavering support system, giving me the space and confidence to fully commit and grow my business.

I’m also incredibly grateful for the friends who have listened to me talk through ideas, challenges, and wins—often while we were out on a bike ride or run. Those conversations were where clarity would strike and creativity would flow.

And finally, a thank you to my local Chamber of Commerce community. Their encouragement and genuine interest in my mission helped me gain the confidence to share my story more openly and connect with the broader community.

Success is never a solo journey, and I’m so thankful for the people who’ve walked—and run—alongside me.
