We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success has been being experimental. Instagram is a wild world of unknowns and the way I run our platform is by testing different ideas to see what kind of content resonates with our audience. I think we have also seen a lot of success because I try to be authentic in my storytelling and highlight the silly and the serious that comes with owning a giant breed dog!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a UI/UX Designer by day and a Dog Momager by night/weekend! Both of these are creative outlets for me to explore through different media. I am a trained Architect, and love thinking about and crafting experiences. This expertise creates a perfect base for both my professional life as a UI/UX Designer and as a social media content creator. I love storytelling and thinking about how people (or dogs!) will experience something.
Something critical to my story is to never stop trying new things. I graduated with an art degree from the University of Kansas and then immediately pivoted to getting a masters of Architecture. After practicing for 5 years I pivoted again into the tech world to start crafting digital experiences instead of physical ones. Now with Winston’s Instagram, I get to practice my storytelling in a different form. It has always been crucial to my path that I keep searching for things that fulfill me, and I will continue to approach life like that forever!
Next on my to-do list is bringing everything full circle by planning an upcoming Colorado Newfie meet-up! It is currently in progress, save the date: October 13th, 2024!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We have lived in a handful of different areas of the Denver Metro, so I’d be dragging my best friend all over the place! We’d definitely have to explore RiNo. I love Finn’s Manor and Los Chingones for drinks and tacos! Little Man’s Ice Cream in LoHi is always a stop we have to make. I’d also take them to the Snooze at Union Station.
We live in West Denver now, so we’d absolutely be taking friends to New Terrain Brewery for amazing beers and incredible views. As a dog mom, we love New Terrain for its dog-friendly patio and there is a dog park directly adjacent to the brewery! It is also extremely kid-friendly, always a plus!
Another breakfast spot we love is Cafe 13 in Golden, it is a MUST.
Obviously, no trip is complete without a visit to Red Rocks. I’d prefer to take a friend to a show or to Yoga on the Rocks, but if nothing was playing simply making them walk the steps is always a hilariously out-of-breath good time.
For shopping we might hit up Cherry Creek or the FlatIron Crossing. Another favorite is making a day trip to Boulder and walking down Pearl Street after hiking the Flat Irons.
Honestly, I could go on and on. We love living here!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my family! I am a mom of three boys in addition to Winston. They often are right alongside me while I am creating content and sometimes they participate! I’d also like to give a shoutout to my husband, Alex. He is an amazing Instagram dog dad 😀 He is always down to help me execute on my wild and sometimes time-consuming ideas.
