Meet Lindsey Hartnett | Wholistic Witch / Funky Bitch

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Hartnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

I am an adventurist in every sense of the word and for better or worse – not only do I seem to find adventure, but it finds me.

In my experience, shedding expectations and approaching with curiosity keeps things exciting and alleviates any pressure I might put on myself. I’m speaking both about my approach to running my business as well as life in general.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

There was a pinnacle day during the pandemic where I heard the term ‘self-compassion’ and it was so foreign to me that I didn’t even know what it meant. It made me sad.

At that time I had been making some skincare products to gift with the reusable masks that I was making and selling. Alone time at home was tough to come by in our home during that period and I had begun to seek my solitude in the bath.

One day after a long soak, I was applying all of my handcrafted products, listening, dancing and singing to my current favorite playlist. Something changed in me through that experience and I think for the first time in my life, I truly learned the value in intentional self-love.

Each of my products is formulated with a saturation of love from soil to skin. They are individual works of love womanifested through an intentional and slow curation of wildcrafted and homegrown herbal infusions. The garden where I grow the herbs is a self-care outlet in itself which adds to the saturation of the mission.

My efforts are intended to fill my purpose while also highlighting the importance of whole wellness. A purifying skincare routine that connects one to nature, m while also encouraging someone to shower themselves in their own love.

Be well all ways.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I suppose it depends on the season, but let’s say summer because I know my bestie wouldn’t want to visit in the winter.

We would definitely be spending most of our time wandering around the mountains to some of my favorite creeks and lakes. The aspen forest is something truly worth spending some time just being with!

Around town, the preferred method of transportation is a bike.  We would spend a good amount of time just blissing on summer and cruising the town (more daytime dips into the Arkansas River.)

There is a lovely local farmers market in Salida on Saturdays where I like to stock up on things that I do not grow. And truthfully, I would probably need her to help work in the garden.

Preparing food for people is my love language and nutrition work is also a big part of my whole health mission so there would be a good amount of time spent gathering in the kitchen; preparing and consuming homegrown and local plants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I absolutely could not be doing this without the community support that I have received. My community extends beyond here in the Arkansas River Valley, but into the live music scene and to really anyone anywhere who sees value in what I am doing.

I need  to specifically thank one of my main herbal mentors, Briana Rose-Wiles of Rooted Apothecary in the Gunnison Valley. Not only has she encouraged and taught me so much of what I know, but she was the one who basically shook me into seeing that Sex, Plants, Rock and Roll was in fact the name I needed to claim to share what I’ve learned.

Lastly but certainly not least, I have deep gratitude for my family as support. My 8 year old daughter spends a lot of time with me at basically every step of the way and is an incredible helper as well as a believer in my mission. My partner is the handyman behind the business. During the start of the pandemic I asked him to build me a garden bed – he converted half of the back yard into a low-key urban farm. When I outgrew running the business in the house, he remodeled an old garage into a year-round ‘glitter cave’ where I can create.

I am a one woman show with an unbreakable net of supportive and loving family, friends, colleagues and customers.
