Meet Lindsey Mazzaferro | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Mazzaferro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by life—by the ups and downs, the everyday moments that often go unnoticed. There’s a unique beauty in the simplicity of daily experiences. I’m particularly drawn to children’s joy and playfulness; their unfiltered expressions and creativity remind me of the pure essence of being present. It’s in these moments that I find my inspiration, capturing the light and shadow that make life so rich and vibrant.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art revolves around photography that celebrates the beauty of everyday life, particularly through the lens of family and play. Though I love branding and personal photography, and still do both, I feel what sets me apart is my deep commitment to capturing authentic moments that reflect the unique dynamics of each family I work with. I feel honored to be welcomed into their lives, witnessing and documenting their genuine interactions, laughter, and love.
I’m most proud of the trust that families place in me, allowing me to capture not just posed portraits but the candid, beautiful chaos of their everyday experiences. This connection is what excites me the most—transforming fleeting moments into lasting memories. I was so fortunate to be present at a birth and at an adoption this year, and those two experiences are core memories for me.
My journey to this point has been fun and exciting. I spent my entire life creating in a multitude of ways, always bouncing around to different mediums. Working in the service industry (I’ve been with the same restaurant group for close to two decades!) has allowed the flexibility needed in raising my family and pursuing my passions. After almost 40 years, I found my calling in photography and am so fortunate that my art has also become my career. I have faced some challenges, particularly with perfectionism, as I tend to be my own harshest critic. I’ve learned that striving for perfection can sometimes hinder creativity, so I’ve worked hard to embrace the beauty in imperfections. Maybe my settings for one photo aren’t technically 100% perfect–that is OK! The moment I captured is breathtakingly beautiful and a snippet of my client’s season of life that they will cherish forever.
Overcoming this mindset has been a crucial lesson; it allows me to be more present and appreciative of the raw moments that make life so special.
Through this process, I’ve learned the importance of patience and self-compassion, both in my art and in life. My brand is built on authenticity, connection, and the celebration of life’s simple joys. My story is one of embracing vulnerability and finding beauty in the everyday, and I hope to inspire others to do the same.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend is visiting the first weekend of the month, I highly recommend the First Friday Art Walk in the Santa Fe Art District. You can walk about to all the art galleries, shops and restaurants and enjoy street Performers, live bands, poets, food trucks and so on, along the way. Denver has so many awesome neighborhood “main streets” and it’s always a lot of fun to pick one neighborhood and hop around that area. I love bouncing around in RiNo (so much to do with the kids during the day) and even more to do with the grownups at night. The street art abounds in RiNo, and makes for such fun photography backdrops! If it’s farmers market season, we are definitely headed to one of the markets! My kids usually choose the one on South Pearl because the LOVE eating at Bird (1529 S Pearl). If we are headed out to dinner with friends, we have our favorite date night rotation of spots around the city, a few being Quality Italian (241 Columbine st,) Safta (3330 Brighton Blvd) A5 (1600 15th st) or Barcelona (2900 Larimer).
If we want to head just a little way out of the city for an easy hike and some fresh air, we head to Mt Falcon West in Morrison, Lair o’ the Bear in Morrison or Golden Gate Canyon State Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my husband who gifted me my first “real” camera and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and begin this amazing journey. His unwavering support of me and of our children is everything (especially during busy season!) I’d be remiss to not mention two very inspirational women in my life— Erin Witkowski, my long time friend and insanely talented photographer who lives in New York and Kristen Abbott, my sweet friend and gifted mixed media painter in Boulder. Their mentorship and friendship mesh the world to me.
