We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Wellman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My micro bakery started out as a small way to supplement our income and make that little extra to help with the cost of living. I had to quit a job I really loved to stay home with our daughter due to high costs of daycare; that was not the vision I had for my motherhood and my mental health started to decline.

I was racking my brain trying to figure out how I could help my hard working husband with our bills so I thought I would try to sell the sourdough bread that I loved making for our family. Last July, Sweet Lady Jane’s Bakery was born!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Creating this business from the ground up had been so rewarding. The compliments on my products and the ‘I follow you on Facebook!’ Comments really make me feel amazing!

I am a self taught Baker and that is another huge point of pride for me. I invested in myself and what I wanted to do and it has truly become my passion.

Overcoming my mental health challenges while I built this business was difficult but I had the support of Nicola Parker (Stronger Than Your Mind Academy) and the other ‘butterflies’ and I have made such huge strides in not only my business but how I treat myself.

My sweet daughter, Cora Jane, is the biggest reason I want this business to become as big as it can be. I want this to be something that she looks at one day and says ‘My mom did THAT!’

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The places I could take them!

One of my favorite lunch/dinner spots is 8te Open, that would be first on my list!

We would enjoy the many parks the city has to offer and Friday nights during the summer you can catch Blues in the District.

Of course, you gotta grab a coffee at Electric Fountain Brewing Company, Krazy Cakes or The PourHaus downtown. Carter’s Coffee Bar is also a favorite of mine for a skinny lotus.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One person who deserves so much credit to my success is my incredibly supportive sister, Ariel.

Not only is she the driving force behind my financials, she is the technology guru for the business as well! I may create some content here and there but Ariel streamlines the process and makes all of my signage for markets, along with being my right hand next to my Husband, Luke.
