We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Isinghood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The journey of starting Thrift Girlie began during a transformative period in my life. I made a conscious decision to cut out toxic routines and embrace a more positive lifestyle, which led me to discover my passion for thrifting. As I immersed myself in the thrifting world, I found tremendous joy in curating thrifted outfits that sparked creativity within me.
I noticed the growing trend of thrift style bundles on social media and thought, “I can do this.” Initially, I battled feelings of self-doubt—questions like, “Am I good enough?” and “Will anyone buy from me?” But I pushed through those insecurities. It took me nearly 30 years to build the confidence needed to market myself and publicly share my journey.
Being naturally shy, I realized that self-love and acceptance had to come first. I needed to ensure I had the confidence, consistency, willingness to learn, and tenacity to pursue this dream. I made a commitment to leave behind judgments and fully embrace the person I aspired to be.
Ultimately, I knew I was ready to create something meaningful. Thrift Girlie is not just a business; it reflects my personal growth and is a testament to the importance of being emotionally and mentally prepared before embarking on any new venture.
What should our readers know about your business?
Thrift Girlie was born from my deep passion for thrifting and a desire to help people feel confident and authentically themselves through fashion.
My goal has always been to style thrifted clothes for women and men who might need guidance in finding outfits that make them feel amazing. Thrifting is more than just shopping; it’s an exciting, fun, and incredibly rewarding adventure. It’s also sustainable and cost-efficient, which resonates with me because of how I grew up. Discovering stylish pieces at a discount always brought me joy, so combining thrifting with styling felt like the perfect fit.
Getting Thrift Girlie off the ground hasn’t been easy. Building brand awareness, growing an audience, and driving sales require consistency, confidence, and creativity. Social media has been a crucial tool in spreading the word, but it’s been a challenge to maintain momentum. However, when you’re passionate about something, challenges don’t feel like obstacles; they feel like opportunities. That’s how I knew I was on the right path.
Some of my most important lessons are not to be too hard on myself, to keep experimenting with new ideas, to meet new people in your industry, and to put yourself out there, which are all part of the journey.
Thrift Girlie was created out of love, passion, and my own personal journey. We’re here to help you discover your unique style effortlessly. If finding the perfect thrifted pieces feels overwhelming or time-consuming, let Thrift Girlie do the work for you with our exclusive Thrift Style Bundles. Our mission is to make thrifting accessible, enjoyable, and tailored just for you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friends were visiting Denver, I’d definitely take them to the RiNo neighborhood. I’m obsessed with the street art, creative atmosphere, and incredible energy. In my opinion, RiNo perfectly captures the essence of what Denver has to offer, from its vibrant murals to its mix of people, small businesses, and pop-up events.
One of the highlights for me is the thrifting scene in RiNo. The area often hosts pop-up events where thrifters and resellers from all over the city come together to showcase their best finds. It’s a thrifter’s dream and a great way to experience the local culture. I always make a point to visit “Heart of Vintage” in the Empire Collective—a vintage store packed with unique pieces.
The whole neighborhood inspires me to be more creative and try new things. Whether it’s the art, the food, or just the general vibe of the place, RiNo is full of opportunities and possibilities. For me, RiNo is the perfect snapshot of Denver’s culture—fun, interesting, and constantly evolving. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in the city’s creative pulse and feel inspired.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to dedicate my shoutout to anyone, it would undoubtedly be my mother. Her love for fashion, beauty, and design has been a constant influence in my life, even when I didn’t fully realize it. Growing up, I was always drawn to the creative world, but my passion for fashion, in particular, was sparked by the treasures I found in my mom’s closet.
Even now, whenever I visit her, I find myself gravitating towards her wardrobe, trying on her clothes and marveling at her impeccable taste.
My mother not only taught me the art of fashion but also instilled in me the understanding that dressing up is more than just about clothes. It’s about feeling good, confident, and expressing who you are without uttering a single word.
This lesson has been invaluable to me and is the very foundation of why I created Thrift Girlie. I wanted to help others experience that same joy and confidence in fashion, especially through thrifted pieces that carry their own unique stories. Without my mother’s influence, Thrift Girlie wouldn’t exist, and I wouldn’t have discovered the power of fashion in shaping both our self-expression and self-esteem.
