We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Stanworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quotes and affirmations are constantly changing, but there are two different quotes that I find myself referring to again and again. The first is simply a result of being a mother of 5, it is from the live Disney movie, Cinderella. The quote is “Have courage and be kind.” This is such a simple quote but one that I find myself repeating to my children frequently. How different would our world be if people could live by these words? Kindness is something that I find is unfortunately lacking in our society. As a parent, I desire to raise children who are strong and confident individuals but going along with that I believe kindness, humility, love, and patience are equally valuable characteristics that I hope to not only teach but exemplify to my children.
The other part of the quote, have courage, goes along with the second quote and that is a quote from the movie, We bought a zoo. It is “You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.” Too many times the fear of failure keeps us from following dreams or life changing moments. Sometimes all we need is those few moments of courage to not talk us out of making decisions; whether it’s standing up for someone, speaking up when you should, or like me, deciding to launch a podcast and following your dreams. When we step out of our comfort zones, I believe that is when we see the most growth.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In addition to my role as a travel podcaster, what brings me the greatest sense of pride is being a dedicated stay-at-home mom to my remarkable five children. I’m sure other parents can relate when I say that I seem to live in my car these days, shuttling the kids from school pickup to bedtime. With their diverse range of interests and activities—be it basketball, football, soccer, golf, tumbling, cheerleading, piano, or track—my little ones have an undeniable zest for life. Amidst the whirlwind, I wholeheartedly cherish this season of my life. As a stay-at-home mom, it’s easy to become consumed by the everyday tasks of tending to your family’s needs, and in the process, I sometimes felt I lost a piece of myself. However, I’ve taken intentional steps to rediscover the things that bring me joy. This podcasting journey has been transformative; it has breathed new life into neglected fragments of my being.
What sets me apart from others is that, to my knowledge, there are very few podcasts quite like mine. While many podcasts focus solely on specific destinations, mine delves into the realm of family travel. Though my initial concept leaned toward mostly solo episodes with guests, I have discovered an immense joy in reaching out to individuals across the globe. Engaging with locals has gifted me with a deeper understanding and invaluable insights that enrich the podcast and my own perspective.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
On episode 30 on my podcast, I interviewed a friend and Denver local, Ben Higgins. I will admit he is much more knowledgeable for an ideal weeklong itinerary so I will give a summary of that interview.
Best places to eat: Ben is part of a restaurant group called Culinary Creative and they have 13 restaurants around Denver. Some of his favorite recommendations are Ash’Kara, Mister Oso, Bar dough, Tap & Burger, and A5 Steakhouse
What to do: Explore the city a little bit, visit the red rocks amphitheater, visit mountain towns like Idaho springs or Evergreen Colorado, and then continue west to the ski mountains,
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
What a fantastic question. I have been blessed to be surrounded by family and friends who have loved and supported me my entire life. I can honestly say, I am the person I am because of the individuals who have surrounded me and cheered me on no matter what crazy adventure I choose to embark upon. When I decided to launch a podcast, fear of failure could have crept in, but family and friends supported me and gave me confidence that I could succeed. My husband and children have been so happy and supportive of me, but also my extended family and friends. Many have actually been guests on my podcast. I am so grateful for the people in my life.
