We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After the birth of both of my children, I always wrote out their birth stories. Specifically after I wrote my daughter’s birth story, I realized how much I wanted to be of service to women giving birth. See, there is so much to consider, decide and wonder about during pregnancy: about your and your baby’s health, the birth experience, parenting, ALL THE THINGS, let alone how to get through all of it without completely losing yourself in the process. I knew that being a doula was what I was being called to do. Both of my birth experiences were black and white, crash cesarean and VBAC; traumatizing and empowering. Other people deserved to know what I know and how to experience the transformation of birth with peace.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Love In Motion is a birth and postpartum doula service business. I started it because I am obsessed with birth, boobs and babies. And not in a creepy way. After birthing my son via crash cesarean, I was hit hard with the reality of trauma processing, baby caretaking and suffering every postpartum ailment you could dream of. At the time, I thought that was my new “normal”. I felt alone, insecure and afraid. It wasn’t until 4 years later that after having my daughter via VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), I realized just what everyone in the birth world was talking about. Birth is an empowering experience, that no matter what happens, whether your Plan A becomes Plan Z, you deserve to be treated well, to have the space to process anything that comes up and to have the support to move through every challenge with ease.¬†As a doula, I am a guide through all the terrain that comes with becoming a new parent. I love to offer support, expertise, thought provoking questions, encouragement, and strength to my clients. It is my job to understand who my client is as a person, so that when labor arrives, they feel safe, supported and secure, knowing that I will be by their side for anything that comes their way.
I use a lot of coaching in the care for my clients as well. I feel like that is what sets me apart from other doulas. I am essentially a life coach for pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Sometimes there may be an issue that gets in the way of getting what you want, so we look at that. My goal is to facilitate alignment between what you say you want and what you’re willing to do in order to get it. And then we learn let go of the outcome.
What gets me excited about my business is that I have the privilege of jumping into a birthing person’s most intimate spaces of their life and I get to hold their space, all while witnessing the miracle that is birth. It’s the best job in the world, in my opinion, but I’m clearly biased. ūüėČ

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would love to take my best friend to Grand Junction. We would drive up and enjoy the mountain scenery, then go to the wineries around Palisade, just outside of Grand Junction. Grand Junction is a fairly small town, so there are many adorable local restaurants and open space to enjoy. I love nature, so we would also hike around Colorado National Park, where there are large ravines to lean over into. The people there are so friendly and kind there as well!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, I would not have become a doula if it was not for my amazing husband John Foster. He has empowered me through the entire process of giving up my urge to need to make as much money as possible and to just go for it! It has been challenging at times, but I wouldn’t trade my passion and purpose for anything now!
