We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucretia Estelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucretia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was constantly getting compliments on my skin and lips. Being asked what products do I use and what are my secrets, I would continually promote other brand products that I was using. One day I decided to research what it took to start my own beauty brand.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started off in the Hospitality industry and quickly grew in my many roles in hospitality management. During this time working in the front office I met many different people traveling to and from Denver. I made a decision to move to Los Angeles to work for another hospitality company and absolutely hated it in LA. I moved back to Denver within 8 months of living in California. Once I arrived back in Denver I started working in property management.
In my personal and professional life I would constantly get compliments on my skincare routine and what brands of foundation and lipsticks was I wearing. This would literally happen everyday no matter if I was in the grocery store or out on the town. Everywhere I would go. I took it as a sign and started to research what it took to start my own lipstick company. The rest was history.
What I want the world to know is it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to start your own beauty brand. There will be a lot of sleepless nights, lonely nights and night where you just want to cry. There was a period of time where I was having anxiety and panic attack every single day because I wasn’t taking care of myself. Building your brand is important but your health is even more important! Make sure that you are taking care of yourself just as hard as you are building the brand.
I would also highly suggest getting a business coach, life coach or business strategist. Navigating being an entrepreneur is not easy. These resources will keep you since and really help you stay focused on the end goal.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the city we would definitely go to a brunch spot to start off. Some of my favorite brunch spots in Denver are Tomayo Modern Mexican, The Lobby (only for mimosas), Luciles, Mimosas, Welton Street Cafe and Tupelo Honey. We then would probably go to Retro Room for their famous pickle shots. Some other fun places in the city are Happy Camper, 54Thirty and Zeppelin Station. I would also make sure to take her to see the Culture Museum, go on a cannabis tour and end the night at a really nice steak house (Guard & Grace.)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely say the world shutting during down during the pandemic is what pushed me to go harder for my brand. Estelle Lux was already in the planning stages in 2019 but once the world shut down in 2020 I was really able to focus and hone in on what I wanted the beauty brand to look like.
