Meet Maddy Hammond | Shuffle Dancer/Instructor, Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddy Hammond and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career because it’s something I’ve always wanted, but for a long time, it never felt possible. Growing up, I believed I had missed my chance to be a dancer because I didn’t start at five years old like everyone else seemed to. That belief stuck with me for years. But in my 20s, something shifted. I began to realize it’s never too late to chase what you are passionate about. Being a content creator and dancer now gives me the opportunity to share my passions and connect with others in a meaningful way. And I’m so glad I gave myself permission to try.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This all started off as an online journal/diary. I decided to do a yearlong challenge in 2021 where I would practice shuffle dance or a form of flow art (hula hooping for example) every day for a year. I used Instagram to stay accountable and track my progress over the year by posting a video every day. By the end of the year, I had a bit of a following on social media and decided to start building my brand! One of the hardest challenges I’ve faced, and continue to face every day, is how to balance this career with all of my other passions. I’m deeply interested in multiple fields, from mental health to dance to content creation, and figuring out where to place my energy isn’t always easy. However, I try my best to focus on what matters most to me in that moment, knowing that change is normal. I want the world to know how truly passionate I am about shuffling, music festivals and flow arts.I want to spark joy, creativity, and confidence. To encourage people to express themselves freely, to explore what makes them feel alive. If flow arts and music speak to someone the way they speak to me, I want to be a guide, sharing the joy, movement, and connection that come with them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As someone that is new to the area, I’d like someone to do this for me! Based on what I’ve learned about the city so far, I would absolutely take them to a show at Red Rocks and on a hike in Boulder or Golden. I’d also recommend we walk about in Rino, checking out the shops and art, followed by margaritas at Federales. We’d also have to grab brunch at Wonderyard before hanging out and dancing at Cheesman Park. Closing out the weekend with some plant-based bites from Watercourse and watching the sunset from a rooftop bar would be perfect as well!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends! As cheesy as it sounds, I wouldn’t be where I am today without their endless love and support.
