We had the good fortune of connecting with Mallison White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mallison, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Artistic expression has always been second nature to me. From a very young age, whether it was simple arts and crafts, rearranging my bedrooms, or going above and beyond in decorating for events, I constantly found myself seeking creative avenues. While not everyone has that artistic calling, many people simply lack the time and energy in their busy lives. It wasn’t until my early adulthood that I realized I could actually turn my artistic passion into a career. In establishing my business, Starving Artist by MallisonSue, I have been very fortunate to connect with many amazing people whom I now get to share my artistic visions with in all things interior design, organization, painting, holiday and seasonal decor, floral arrangements, and event prep. Without a doubt, creating my art business was the perfect path for me!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As you can imagine, owning a business entails so much more than just doing the parts you actually enjoy. It has been quite a journey teaching myself about establishing an LLC, developing a functioning website, properly invoicing clients, and trying to have a social media presence. At times it can be a bit overwhelming for just one person, especially when I have a separate full time career. Regardless, I would say I am most proud that I continue to show up each and every day and give my all into my business!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado has SO much to offer! As a native, I like to think I know many great recommendations for someone visiting. Where would I even start?! Boulder is a beautiful place to be if you’d like walking around Pearl Street, exploring trails around Chautauqua, or enjoying the view at Flagstaff. If you are looking for something more outdoorsy, I would highly recommend hiking up to Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park or maybe rent a paddleboard and explore one of our beautiful reservoirs. If you’re into other experiences like me, I would also suggest visiting either the Museum of Illusions or Meow Wolf, driving up to Podium Karting, or even jumping out of a plane at Mile-Hi Skydiving. And finally, if you wanted to explore Denver, I would recommend enjoying tasteful cocktails and treats at Welton Room, Forget Me Not, or 54thirty!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents for always encouraging my passion in art, my friends and family who have cheered me on along the way, and my incredible clients who have shown nothing but love and support for my small business. I wouldn’t be where I am without you all!
