We had the good fortune of connecting with Maritza (Marz) Snader and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maritza (Marz), can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started a small business because at the time I had the product and saw an opportunity. My husband is very encouraging and just said do it and don’t look back. And 2 years later here I am. At the time I was working as a program manager for a behavioral health company. I’ve always wanted to take control of my own career. I was always an entrepreneur as a child, I sold and created mixtapes for friends in high school, I sold candy, I sold clothing and I baked cupcakes. It was a fantastic time. I don’t ever feel like I was meant to work for somebody else. With the help of my husband’s words and my ripping off the band-aid, I started and I am going to continue to pursue what I enjoy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an artist in any capacity is no joke. It is not easy, especially in a state where it rains it shines snows and everything in between. My art is very personal to me. My art is my way of expression because I add color and life to the candles I create. Not one of my candles is the exact same. From the scents to the way they look, the mold, and the color itself. I believe that is what sets me apart in addition my candles are in mugs…well at least most of them. They are upcycled and I select each one myself, and every now and then my husband and/or even my mother-in-law will include their own selection, with my approval of course. I’m not at all finished with what my brand and my candles will look like. I am always changing my ideals on what I like. Sometimes I love the designs I have and other days I just don’t feel it. When it comes to being creative it is best to just do it and keep going. Not everyone will love my candles but that’s the beauty of creating. You get to meet people that love your work and people that kinda see it as just any other candle. But I don’t take it personal, I’ve grown and learned all about what it is that I want to put out and what I want to create. I also do custom candles so that helps me learn from what others are expecting. Either way, I continue to create one-of-a-kind peaces of candle art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend did come into town and it was her first time in Colorado. We both have kids so we didn’t get too crazy but I do plan on having her over again and for that trip we might need my husband to watch our children so we can have much-needed girl time. So I enjoy cooking and I make some mean dishes thanks to Pinterest. Some of my favorite dishes I’d create are honey balsamic brussel sprouts with garlic shrimp scampi and zucchini noodles like soooo good. I also need her to try my pesto mushroom chicken lasagna roll or my teriyaki salmon bowl. As far as places to visit my list goes like this but I also don’t plan too much because it can mess up the flow of the trip. Here are a few places that I enjoy and what I would do each night. (Day 1 ) I’m making all the food with her help. She will randomly select which park we go to in order to catch up. There we ride bikes all around the beautiful city of Denver.

(Day 2) Lucile’s Creole Cafe (breakfast)
Snowl (snack)
Improper City (chill and hang out)
Yak and Yeti for dinner (night 2)
Beacon RiNo (dancing)

(Day 3) We not planning nothing whatever happens happen

(Day 4) Grounds for Dismissal Coffee (of course)
UFC Gym ( work that a__ out)
Head to La Reyna. Azteca (lunch)
Cherry Creek Reservoir
Golden Saigon (dinner)

(Day 5) Another random day but this time we head to Boulder and look at homes all day plus eat.

(Day 6) Get coffee (Cafe Ole)
Head out to Pikes Peak or. White River National Forest depending on how far she wants to drive
Drive around and eat at amazing places

(Day 7) DIRT Coffee Bar
Take her to the airport hugs goodbye

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Zoapscents is my mother in laws company and she was the one who started this all for me to pursue. She is an amazing wonderful woman who loves buying just all types of things. She would ship all of my supplies from California to Colorado in large packages. I might have had about 200 scents different scents, sent to me from her. She is one of those people at the family cookout that brings like 5 or 6 different entrées. We love her so much, shes just enough extra.
