We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand has always been authenticity. Staying true to myself through my music allows me to attract a likeminded following. My fans and I share similar experiences, interests, and ideas, so I can effortlessy promote my brand by simply being genuine to who I am as a person. This all starts with me being as vulnerable and honest as possible through my craft of music. This is important because it takes much more energy promoting a false narrative for yourself rather than just living out your truth through honest expression. This can apply to any type of business pushing a product.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been making music for about eight years now. My passion for writing has been around even longer. In school, writing essays and book reviews came naturally to me. I exceled in english. Around 8th grade is when I started getting into poetry. This helped mold me into the person, performer, artist, and musician I am today. My transition to rapping after poetry was a seamless one. I’ve always had a passion for the culture of hip hop and rap music itself. My parents raised me in this culture. Growing up, my favorite hip hop artists provided me with passion, hope and inspiration through their music. Soon, I desired to give that same feeling to hip hop fans around the world. I began freestyling at school. I bought my first mic in middle school and would record in my grandma’s closet. As my hustle and ambition grew, I was able to make the connections and money I needed to meet amazing producers and engineers that would help take my music to the next level. I’ve even learned to properly record, mix, and master my own music. My love for music has inspired me to also dabble in music production and videography. These days I am blessed to have the freedom to create music that is true to me. My hopes are that my music helps to create a positive shift in people’s life. It was not easy getting to this point in life. I was able to overcome every obstacle with my faith, discipline, and imagination. This journey has taught me to work hard, stay organized, and have one hundred percent belief and confidence in yourself. At the end of the day, I want people to know that MaRKI3 is simply the natural phenomenon, which we call self expression. Art is naturally occurring every second of our lives. MaRKI3 is an attempt to translate my experiences into meaningful messages and music that moves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Cruising around my past neighborhoods. Five points, up and down Federal and Alameda, Cherry Creek, 9th and Galapago. We’ll grab a bite and drinks dowtown at 5280 burger. Hike up at Red Rocks. Visit the stage touched by countless of amazing musicians. There are lots of great museums I love to visit. This includes, the Museum of Nature and Science, the History Colorado Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and plenty other great ones.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
