We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary Ann Hilt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mary Ann, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky, but moved to Colorado at 19. I began my career in Vail, Colorado when I was 21 as a retail merchandiser and manger at a ski shop. This inspired me to go back to school and study business and finance at the University of Colorado. After I graduated, I began a career in investment banking, trading and a stock broker. I began a family and focused on raising my three boys and decided to invest in real estate while I stayed home with the boys. I did a few fix and flips, rental properties and scraped a home in Sloan’s Lake and built three condos. I have also assisted a developer in affordable housing. My boys were now grown and I decided to take my expertise in real estate and start my business as a realtor. I am excited to share my knowledge with my clients and reduce the stress of home ownership. I have many contacts for home repairs, home organizers and I stage all my houses as a free service. I am striving to become a valued agent for all my clients. I appreciate the opportunity to assist with all their home buying and sells needs.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have started to be a realtor for RE/MAX Professionals. Even though I have invested in real estate for the past 15 years, I decided to become an agent and started working with clients interested in buying or selling homes. I have always been drawn to home design and interior decorating. It is not easy beginning a business in real estate. It takes time to develop trust in the industry and potential clients are reluctant to give a referral. You have to be consistently in front of people and marketing yourself. I have learned that you can not be insincere and have be yourself and not force sale tactics on anyone. I want to truly assist people in their home needs. I am working with estate organizations and home organizers to facilitate the moving of older clients to an independent or assisted living facilities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my husband Rodney Hilt. He has been my life support for all my endeavors and has believed in me, even when I did not believe in myself. He has encouraged me to learn through trying new experiences that were uncomfortable. For example, risking time and money to invest in properties take courage and Rod was supporting me every step of the way. He engages me to always use my mind and strive to be a better advocate for all my clients. He has assisted with clarifying my goals and working hard for all my accomplishments. Rodney is my pillar and my best friend.
