We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Dettmann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Originally from Wisconsin, and grew up with parents who started and ran their own business, likewise my oldest brother started his own business and he still runs multiples businesses today. We were all raised in a close family where our faith in God and Christian upbringing was paramount in our lives and in our work-life. In our family it was always hard work, and love toward others. Those values thankfully remain even more important today, and making sure I wake up everyday trying to hit the mark no matter how many times I do not. I always tell employees that we build our businesses one customer at a time through love and communication. Mass marketing, advertising, or any means of reaching many people through media is great, but it’s the opportunity to meet and form relationships with these customers that forges a long-term client who feels valued in our establishments.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
TRiNiTY Brewing Company has always gone thru the effort of creating hand-drawn original artwork from local artists, and then applying that to a beer’s personality and hopefully its legacy. And, in 16 years we’ve got about 140 pieces of original artwork that are displayed throughout our locations, and on our merchandise. Artwork is a very long and expensive process compared to many modern labeling techniques, however it is well worth the time and effort as our customers do attach themselves to specific art and favorite beers and how they are paired together. The personality of the artwork definitely reaches the customer on a personal level and is a unique attribute for our TRiNiTY/ customer relationship.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For the ultimate Colorado Springs weekend trip, you’d spend your time hiking or touring thru the West side of the Springs. Garden of the Gods park is America’s 2nd most traveled state park with nearly 2 million visitors annually. Taking the Cog train, driving, or just hiking to the top of Pikes Peak’s 14,000 ft summit is a days adventure. The “healing waters” of the Manitou Springs natural drinking fountains, and the famous 7-falls waterfall are all within the vicinity to knock off your bucket list on a sunny weekend. And, of course every afternoon or evening should be spent at any of Colorado Springs nearly 40 breweries with a must-stop at one of our TRiNiTY Brewing locations for any of 50 beers on tap and artisanal eats!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely there are a lot of individuals who deserve shout outs. There’s one family in particular who were a very successful business couple, living in Southern CA. My wife and I were just married and they were good friends. They noticed we were both hard-working and curious to “how or what” do you do to even have your own businesses. They gave us sound advice based on their experiences, and they explained so many concepts to us (as 20 something year olds) had no idea about. Passive and active income, real estate exchanges, property and business evaluations, diversification, and on and on. These are all basic concepts to many people, but for 2 young married kids with no college they were eye-opening. And, we (now as older adults) know the importance of finding and having a great mentor, or at least someone who has been thru the ringer before you.
