We had the good fortune of connecting with Max Urquhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Max, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The effects of the global trade market on our products.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I dont know if this sets me apart from other top level executives, but I worked very hard, putting in the extra hours in the early mornings and after work late at night to get where I was. I started at the lowest level of low, as a inventory counter and sales person. Each step of the way I proved to my boss (bosses) that I would outwork anyone else. My other trait that has always been great, is my flexibility, i have worked every job in this company and can cover for any employee on any day. That ability, to do any job within the company, is invaluable and allows for my staff to take the time off they deserve. I will never ask an employee to do something I haven’t done myself for the company, and they know that, and respect it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Visiting Denver is a vibe. Most likely tell him/her to take the train into union station. From there we could head to Rino area for a drink and meal at Work and Class, or maybe something from Denver Central Market. Rino also has amazing graffiti art, so a nice walk/bike around that area, finishing with a beer at OMF. I would also definitely take the person camping and floating on the colorado river, most likely stay at Rancho del Rio or camp on BLM land up there. There is nothing like getting away from the city and service and enjoying a beautiful day on the river. Since the town is such a big music place, a show would definitely be something we would do. A red rocks show in 2008 is why myself and many friends moved here, so showing my friend that amazing venue is on the list always, but if no red rocks show, Denver will always be providing some sort of music to see. If a hike was in order, I would take them to Hermans Gulch, the perfect hard hike close to the mountains with water at the top for my dog to swim at.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our fans – most importantly they have always supported us and our crazy ideas. While we had lots of mentors and friends/family that supported us early on, the unwavering support of our fans is why we made it and continue to make it in this world. We started our journey as a festival and event brand, but soon our online business continued to grow, as well as our private label side of business.
