We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Grass and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
An important factor behind the success that I have had, is to not be afraid of failure. I have attempted multiple start ups and some of them have failed but I was never deterred from trying to find success doing something that I am passionate about. Failure does not mean a lack of success, it is simply a lesson to be learned in order to adapt and achieve the success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
If the world needs to know anything about my brand, it would be that it is authentic and unwavering.

I have multiple businesses and each of them I am incredibly proud of.

As a photographer in a world where one’s smart phone can have a better camera then Nikon it is sometimes difficult to set yourself apart.

What sets me apart most is something that I like to call Mental Health Photography. Being human is hard and the world we live in does not make it any easier. Many people suffer from mental health issues and have to deal with the stigma of that everyday. My goal with this photography style is to create a safe space for someone to feel as confident as possible. For example, someone with Body Dysmorphia has a hard time being confident, so I ask my clients what is it that makes you feel your best and whatever that is, that is what I photograph. When they need that confidence boost sometime down the road they can refer to the photos and remember just how wonderful they are.

When I decided to rebrand my existing photography business, I chose to open it up to categories that fall in line with what I love to do, to make my clients feel as amazing as possible. I have photographed weddings, events, couples, landscapes etc. but my true passion is making people feel confident so I shifted my focus to my Mental Health Photography, Boudoir & Senior Portraits. I will always love to photograph weddings and our big beautiful world and will never turn down the opportunity to do so!

I find a lesson after every shoot that I do, sometimes it’s as simple as an angle or location that would have been more beneficial. Other times I learn a new way to connect with a client that gives me insight on how to make them more comfortable.

Ostentus Digital Media Management

My most recent venture has been a long time in the making, it has been many other things and has been structured in multiple ways.

In Latin Ostentus means “to display” and that is exactly what I do. I display whatever product or service that my clients have to offer. Primarily through social media channels. I take over the posting on these pages to take the burden off the client who has other business decisions to make. I take the creatives and the marketing plans and implement them in the best way possible based on the social media platform they are being posted on.

Neither of these businesses are easy, they require constant adaptations to fit the world around us but with that comes great lessons and fun. I enjoy the chaotic nature of these types of businesses because what is life if not chaotic?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people I wish I could dedicate this to, the support that I have had throughout my life is abundant and heart warming. To mention them all would no doubt call for the closing credits theme music at the Oscars so I will stick with the most important, my parents. They have always encouraged me to do anything that I wanted in life and to pursue any and all dreams that I had. Without their constant encouragement, constructive criticism and unwavering support, I would not be where I am today.
