We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Holt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking can look a number of ways: moving out of your small town, throwing your life savings towards a passion project, trying something that you think might fail, but it all comes back to doing something that makes you feel excited yet uncomfortable. When we step out of our comfort zone we are inviting opportunity for growth. It’s within these moments that we are able to go deeper within ourselves and discover something new. Whether the risk leads to “success” or “failure,” it’s all a learning experience that happened for you. My most pivotal moments have come from the times I have taken risks. I may not have always understood the outcome in those moments, but they have always been my greatest teachers. I believe risks are vital to take in life to build character and experiences. My biggest advice, however, is to not let the “failure” of taking a risk knock you down and stop you from taking another one. It comes back to the mindset of looking at these moments as happening FOR you rather than TO you. I’ve seen too many friends take a risk and it stops them from progressing on their dreams. I think that the way I have framed this idea of risk taking in my head in a positive light no matter the outcome has allowed me to continue to push myself even through the toughest of times. I have a belief that there is a bigger plan for me so I choose to continue to bet on myself.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’ve had quite the bumpy ride to get to where I’m at today. I have always had a creative eye that led to many high school summers reconstructing clothing or making jewelry for my “summer job.” This felt like a calling that I followed through from college to adulthood where I was eventually spit out in Los Angeles to pursue celebrity fashion styling. The toxic environment was anything but glamorous. I spent several years in this career field where I developed an unhealthy relationship with myself and eventually an eating disorder. I became obsessed with fitness and being “healthy.” I used it as my escape from the brutal criticism and hectic environment of the styling world. Over time, I came to terms with the fact that I wasn’t actually healthy and needed help. At that time, I was also writing and working for a fashion blogger. I decided to start easing my way out of styling and found a life coach to help overcome my body dysmorphia. I began to develop actual healthy habits and discovered my love for writing. This sparked my idea for my health and wellness blog to share my story and help others from the valuable learnings I had obtained. Fast forward to 2022 and my craving for fashion still lies within. This year I am reconnecting with that side of me and launching my new brand of thrifted and reconstructed clothing, “bleachd.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
While I’m no Erica Buehler and still fairly new to the city, I have discovered a few go-to hang out spots. Firstly, if I’m having friends come into town I *love* attending events so I’ll see what’s going on for that week: i.e. Saturday Night Bazaar at Sloan’s Lake, First Friday Art Walk, Outdoor Voices fitness events, etc. You’ll catch us having brunch at My Neighbor Felix, lunch at Tupelo Honey and dinner at El Five (can you tell I lived in the LoDo/LoHi area?). For a night in or take out after a long day of hiking a 14er or snowshoeing at RMNP, we’re grabbing pizza from @JoeyParmsPizza (Joey makes amazing New York style pizza from scratch out of his Commons Park Apartment, all it takes is a quick Instagram DM!), wings from Fire On The Mountain or Thai from Aloy Thai. Ideally, we’re topping off the night with Little Man Ice Cream.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I feel so lucky to have had so many amazing people come into my life and play a role in my journey. Two women stand out to me the most when it comes to my personal and career growth. I first want to thank my life coach, Pearl Liang, who has helped me exponentially with my personal journey. Pearl has been there every step of the way with me from discovering self love, to overcoming an eating disorder, finding inner strength and providing me with the tools to connect with my highest self and purpose. Secondly, I want to credit Meeka Hossain for taking me under her wing and teaching me the ins and outs of various sides of the fashion business. Meeka, I have always looked up to you and your work ethic and appreciate how much time you have invested in me.

Thank you both for always being there and believing in me.
