We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Stevenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always had an artistic flare and need to create and express myself through art. How I’ve done this has evolved over the years: from painting & drawing, to wood working, writing and now I decorate little pieces of edible art! I didn’t set out to be a cookie artist, it just kind of developed over the last year. But I have found this form of expression the most fulfilling! Cookies make people happy and they fill tummies. Who could ask for more!?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I did not intend to become a professional cookier. It kind of developed on its own out of my own insatiable drive to do-it-myself. I watched cookie decorating videos for years and only ever attempted my own at Christmas – until this year. I caught a whim to really learn how to do it right and that very quickly snowballed into a full blown cottage bakery business! And I have loved every moment of it!!

It, of course, has not been without its challenges. In being a cookie artist for less than one year, my business is ever evolving as I learn the ropes and develop my brand. I’m humbled by the support of my community. I often find myself in awe of my days; as I respond to person after person about their celebrations and events that they want my cookies at. It’s a blessing, really.

Art you can eat has to be one of the best joys we have in this Iife; and I get to bring that joy to those around me! It’s really the best job I’ve ever had!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado Springs is GORGEOUS! These Mountain View’s are absolutely stunning! My husband was stationed here this year and we arrived in June! Which, I’d like to point out that only being in this community for less than six months and receiving the love and support that I have is overwhelmingly heartwarming! We have visited Garden of The God’s, Manitou Springs, and Helen Hunt Falls so far. They’re all incredible spots with so much to do and see! But our favorite spot has been The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo! My kids love seeing the animals and feeding the giraffes!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many incredible people have backed me since starting a cookie business. My husband and children are first and foremost as they live with the craziness of baking days and due dates. Their support is priceless! My mom is like a long distance business partner. She’s always willing to listen to my plans and is always shouting compliments at my weekly orders. Her encouragement really boosts my confidence.

My sister and brother have been nothing short of uplifting, which keeps me going.

I have several amazing friends who have been the best sounding boards and sources of strength and the baking community on social media – it’s like a family really; and refreshing to have strangers just want to see you win.
