We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

What should our readers know about your business?
Interior Design greenList is a membership based platform aimed at bringing “done for you” resources, and accredited continuing education modules to Interior Design professionals. Members have varying levels of access to our interactive sustainable sourcing directory, bi-monthly zoom group coaching, trade show meet-ups, and more. I wanted to create a community of support and resources to help designers future proof their business as more clients and municipalities are demanding sustainability.

What sets us apart is the community and the “access anywhere” model. There is no other platform that combines all these resources into one place. We are the first.

The challenges that I have overcome are mainly in the investment and start-up story. We are still only about 1 year post launch and getting the word and gaining new members is our current focus. This comes secondary to ensuring that we are updating and adding to our vendors and resource lists every quarter so the information stays relevant and designers can trust that there will be new resources as time goes on.

I want the Interior Design world to know that sustainability is more than just a “buzz” word, it is not a trend, and that designers who gain this knowledge and have the toolkit and confidence to execute sustainable design will win more jobs, make more money, and do better for their clients and the planet. The most important myth I can bust is that you do NOT have to sacrifice your client’s budget or your design aesthetic to bring a eco-conscious and healthy space to life!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My travel itinerary for a week in Colorado would have to include some skiing or snowboarding, a trip to a hot springs, a local brewery, and plenty of time by the fire out in the open – dogs are a must too!

Favorite Ski Resorts: Steamboat, Breckenridge, Vail
Favorite Hot Springs: Iron Mountain
Favorite Local Brewery: Broken Compass (dogs allowed inside, a must)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest shoutout has to go to my business coach, Terri Taylor with Interior Design Business Academy. Not only was her program instrumental in my design firm’s long term success, but this is where I met the many interior designers that are now some of our most engaged and talented members. It was at one of our coaching retreats that I had my “aha moment,” and realized, that I have something to offer the industry – not just my clients. And from there Terri worked with me to develop a plan to build IDgreenList alongside my design practice.

I also have to give a heartfelt thank you to every single founding member that put their faith out there and joined my platform before it launched. These designers and all members are what makes this continued work possible.
