We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Brock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghan, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started my business, I felt like success was being busy all the time. It was very hard for me to turn any order request down no matter how full my schedule already was. I started feeling like I was too busy and no longer investing enough time into my family. I have learned that its okay to say that I’m booked. That also allows me to give my clients the absolute best quality I can because I have the time to invest in each of our custom orders.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m very proud of how far I’ve come in my artistic abilities since I started down this path. This did start as a hobby and I’ve learned to do two things to keep it as something I love to do. First, I’ve learned that when it starts feeling like a lot of work, I need to schedule a week or two off for myself. I always come back to it fresh and creative. Second, I now make time to create cookie art that is specifically designs that I want to make, this keeps me the most creative and a lot of the time improves or helps me learn new techniques.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Likely we would wander around Old Colorado City and Manitou. There are so many great little shops, parks, restaurants and museums around there. To name a few of my favorites, the Simpich showcase, Michael Garman museum, Paravicini’s Italian bistro, Colorado Creamery, the penny arcade and a hike at Red Rock Canyon Open Space.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Travis definitely deserves a shout out. From day one he has been so supportive. He is an IT professional so he immediately took on the role of building and managing our website. He also manages all of our invoices, edits our photos, keeps me company when I work late into the night decorating cookies, makes all of our boxes and labels and of course he does quality control 🙂 . We are definitely a team and this business would not be what it is today without him. He constantly gives me all the credit but he does so much work behind the scenes.
