We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The most important thing to keep in mind when starting your own business is making sure it is your true passion. Something you don’t consider work and something you can see yourself showing up for day in and out and never wanting to leave, quit, or give up!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart is my passion for helping women build their confidence. There is no better feeling than seeing your client’s face light up when they see their finished hair. I have recently embarked on a new mission to help women fighting cancer by donating wigs as a gift. I have seen firsthand how difficult fighting cancer can be on someone’s confidence, and if there is anything I can do to help boost these women up, I want to do it! One of the challenges I face is being a people pleaser by nature. When you are running a business this can be a little difficult however, I always stand behind who I am and put what’s best for my business first.
One of the biggest lessons I learned was from my dad, he constantly reminded me to never let fear get in the way. Fear should never stop you from chasing your dreams or embarking on your next goal, instead learn to overcome fear and you’ll be unstoppable. On the other side of fear is true beauty.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Whenever I have a friend visiting I definitely try to get outside, so the Red Rocks is a must! Whether that be for a concert or a hike, I think it is just an absolutely beautiful Colorado staple. For dinner I would head over to Cherry Creek, maybe get some pre-dinner shopping in before heading over to Quality Italian for a laid-back dinner for two!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I first have to shout out my wonderful parents for shaping me into the woman I am today. Growing up we were taught to work hard and never let fear stop us from achieving our dreams. Without those values, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I also have to shout out my beautiful daughter Bella, who was half of the inspiration for the name Bello Haven, along with my dad. I never knew how much happiness and joy one little love bug could bring until I had her. Lastly, I want to shout out all my employees and wonderful clients because I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without them.
