We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Parra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melody, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in Southern California and honestly had a pretty rough childhood. From a young age, I knew I wanted to do hair and I graduated cosmetology right as I turned 18. I’ve always had to work hard for anything and everything I’ve wanted in life and that has molded me into an extremely driven adult. I’ve always been motivated to set goals and work for them and I’ve become really proud of who I am now that I’m older.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a stylist specializing in dimensional color and lived-in balayage. I took a good chunk of years off not working in the industry when my son was little and landed an apprenticeship with a fantastic stylist once he went to kindergarten. That is how I came out on my own. My journey has been long and bumpy but I can honestly say that I have never loved what I do more than the present. I work hard everyday, always try to give my best, and I’m constantly seeking education to better my craft. If there was anything I’d want people to really know about me and my story, it’s that your circumstances do not have to define you. I’ve had all the cards stacked against me many times in life, but finding your passion making it a priority is so important and also extremely rewarding. I’d do it all over again to get right back here if I had to.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I love hiking, and I tell everyone to go hike 7 Bridges if they can! Cheyenne canyon is amazing and hiking next to a little stream makes me so happy. There are so many local food spots that I have a hard time picking one for visitors, but Pig Latin is a favorite place of mine, for starters! Also, if they haven’t had Dutch Bros Coffee, I wouldn’t let them leave without one!
