We had the good fortune of connecting with Torii Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Torii, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is an essential part of life and business. In both areas of my life I try to implement risk when it feels appropriate and when the probability for success is likely. After working in a stable government job for several years, although things were progressing in the right direction, I felt this underlying need for “more.” At the time, my best friend (and co-founder of MANSSION) Feras Khouri, decided that we wanted to establish something of our own. As customers in the men’s fashion industry we felt that the accessories available to us were limited. The brands and products did not resonate with who we were. Thus, MANSSION was created. We worked hard to develop our branding, product designs, packaging and the overall business. After about a year into this process, Feras relocated to Denver for a new position with a new employer. For me, I knew that in order to continue to develop as a company the best decision was for us to live together. After much discussion with family and friends, I decided it was time to take a risk. I packed up my belongings, left my position as a Police Officer and headed to Denver a month later. I came to Colorado with no security plan, just a goal to grow this company and a belief that we would get there. Living together enabled us to work on MANSSION consistently and made the needle move faster. Soon after getting to Denver, things truly started to pay off and my decision was validated. In The Girl Next Door, after the character Matthew has won over the girl, he says “the juice is worth the squeeze.” In relationships, in business, in life – risks are always worth taking if you believe enough in the rewards that may come. Without the risks, MANSSION would not be where it is today.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MANSSION is an accessory company which was created to help “Set Yourself Apart”. We as owners of MANSSION live by this saying on a day to day basis and we want our accessories to be a constant reminder to do the same. Our goal as a company is to make one of a kind, stylish, and durable pieces which can’t be found anywhere else. We believe we as a brand set ourselves apart from our competition by constantly improving everything we make, listening to feedback from our customers, and releasing new designs which can only be found at MANSSION. It has been a long road to get to where we are now and still a long road ahead of where we want to be. Challenges pop up all over the place in business whether it be defective products, not hitting a goal, or outside forces like a world wide pandemic. I think the biggest way we have been able to overcome these challenges is having great business partners. You are not going to wake up everyday feeling the most motivated or super optimistic. There are going to be things that will go wrong I can promise you that and good business partners help you get through those days or times. There is know way I would have been able to do this on my own without Feras and Yorgi.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a tough question because in Denver there is so many amazing places. I love seafood so I would have to say my favorite places to eat are Uchi Sushi and Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar. The Highlands is a great spot to hang out lots of cool bars in that area but my top spot would be Happy Camper. It is a cool outdoor spot, upbeat and friendly vibe with great staff. At some point you have to catch a show at Red Rocks. I have been to a lot of venues and concerts but there is nothing quite like a show at Red Rocks. The view is unbelievable and something which is a one of a kind experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The things I have been able to accomplish in life have been impacted by so many people between friends and family. MANSSION would be no where without my two amazing partners the “creative genius” Yorgi and the “sound thinker” Feras. My personal decisions/work ethic were and still are heavily influenced by my older sister. I look up to her in many ways and she always goes at everything 100%. Having to follow in her footsteps my entire life, watching her be one of the top in school, athletics, successful, and being liked by everyone was a lot to live up to. At the same time watching how she has handled certain situations in life has made me always strive to be the best version of myself and to compete to be the best in everything I do.
