We had the good fortune of connecting with Meta Riseling and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meta, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by our community! We live in a very small community in rural colorado. We look after each other. With my job as Store Manager I have a responsibility to our entire Community, not just the store or our board. We want to stay in business for our entire community!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am excited to see our store grow. I am always looking for new products and services we can offer our customers. I have an amazing team. I know when I have to be gone, our store continues to be successful. We are not your average grocery store. Being owned by the community, including some employees, sets us apart from most big box stores. We have a board of five members who meet with us once a month. Our board members are community members who work other places and volunteer their time to help us keep our store going. I have been here at the store for 12 years. I have worked all departments and sometimes still do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being such a laid back community we would just invite others to come barbeque. Could take them to Walsh Inn/ Imindful Gifts to see their displays of art and jewelry, We could hit up MIller’s Specialties and More for some shopping as well. A HIgh School basketball game is a must! The whole town will be there. Certain times of year we have exciting activities. In June you can come to Walsh Days where we have games, prizes, give aways and so much more. In December we have a Craft Fair where you can get all your Christmas shopping done in one place! The Chili cook off at the Nursing home is usually a great place to visit as well. A&A Creations is a must as well!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of our employees! We are not just co workers here at Walsh Community Grocery Store. We are family! Teamwork is one of the most important aspects of our business. It is not just me that makes the decisions. I feel like the whole team should have a say so.
