We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of Surge Kickboxing is the community we have created. As a business owner, I take great pride in treating each customer like my family. We create a warm and welcoming experience for every single person that comes through the door, and the community we have created is what has lead to our success. We embody our Dojo Kun and encourage our members to do the same. Seek Perfection of Character
Be Faithful
Endeavor
Respect Others
Refrain From Violent Behavior
Love Yourself and Love Others
If we can help our community to live by the Dojo Kun inside and out of the gym, then we know we will always be successful in creating an amazing community.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets myself and Surge Kickboxing apart from others is the fact that we truly put our customers first. We look at them as family and treat them as we would members of our family. Whether you need help financially, emotionally, physically, we are here for you. Once you step foot inside of Surge Kickboxing you will immediately feel at home and part of the family. We are always trying to community events like kickball, potlucks, self defense seminars and so on. We include everyone no matter your age, sex, religion, race. The gym is a place where EVERYONE can be included.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Red Rocks is a must. The Golden Mill is a great place, and same with Edgewater Marketplace. They are food courts with good drinks. You can get a variety of food and drinks.
Hiking is always a good thing in Colorado. Whether it’s in Boulder, Golden, or even further into the mountains.
Depending on the season, you can go skiing in the winter. My favorite mountain is Copper. In the summer you have to go to Water World. Great water slides and good fun for all ages

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When I was growing up, I went to a dojo in Louisville, CO called International Martial Arts Association. This is where I learned martial arts, as well as what a strong and supportive community looks like. My Sensei and his wife taught me Karate, gave me a job working at the dojo, and cared for me like family. They showed me the true value of caring for your members and your community. I also was closely involved with the business operations, so I got to see how a business was run.

I can’t forget about my parents. They were always there to support me, and my mom even had her own business when I was a kid. I learned a lot from them, and they always taught me to think for myself and let me independent to learn on my own. I am so grateful for that.
