We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Jaycox and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, starting my own business was always the goal. Writing, inherently, can feel like a solitary artform, but through my business, I’ve been able to interact with the creatives and entrepreneurs who fuel my passion for telling stories. By working for myself, I’ve come to find it much easier to develop the one-on-one relationships that allow me to really get to know a client and share their brand’s story.

What should our readers know about your business?
As early as I can remember, I wanted to grow up and be a writer. And while life has had plenty of twists and turns since then, that desire to create stories and share them with others has never changed.

I’ve spent time as a journalist, an editor, a blogger, content creator, and fiction writer — anything, really, that would allow me to create something that wasn’t there before — and I believe it’s all led me to where I am today.

Working with unique and growing brands, In Your Words Copy shares my clients’ stories with their audiences in a voice that resonates. And while the goal is always to find leads and turn sales, the most important thing is that the words represent the business with an honest tone that feels consistent, familiar, and trustworthy.

My success stems from my clients’ success, which is why I will always gravitate towards building the sort of long-term relationships that allow me to help foster a brand identity that lasts.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite things about Denver are the food, the weather, and the parks. With just a day to entertain a friend, I’d start by taking a walk through Wash Park to South Pearl, where we’d hopefully enjoy the farmer’s market and grab an early lunch. Assuming all the planets align on my perfect day, the Denver Nuggets will obviously playing a big game at Ball that night. As a lifelong fan and season-ticket holder, there’s no better show in town than watching the three-time MVP dominate on the court. After an assured win, we’ll follow the rest of the city out into town to enjoy a nightcap at Terminal Bar in Union Station.

With a whole week to play around with, though, the plan will be to … slow … down.

We’d head up to Rocky Mountain National Park first things first and find a campground to spend the weekend soaking in that mountain life: hikes, fires, smores, and a night sky full of stars. As the week continues, we’ll hit the staple Colorado attractions, including a show at Red Rocks, a trip down to Garden of the Gods, and a trek up the Flatirons. With good food mixed in at every opportunity, the goal will be to enjoy all that nature you’d be hard pressed to find elsewhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without question, my shoutout has to go to my wonderful wife, Audrey Gibson. Not only is she a talented artist, designer, architect, and dancer in her own right, but she’s the constant foundation in my life that has allowed me to pursue my wildest creative dreams. She has my forever thanks.
