We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Crawford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I truly love being creative. I love seeing what can come from nothing. Creating truly makes me happy and now I can make others happy too. It just seemed like a no brainer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I create edible works of art for celebrations or just because. I am most proud when my customers are thrilled with the look but then are surprised it actually tastes delicious too! I think one of the best compliments I got was a review that said “Michelle’s baking is reminiscent of something that comes from your grandma’s kitchen.” Starting a business and running one takes a lot of sweat, blood and tears. What I’ve learned though is whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well. I want the world to know that if they do decide to work with me, they will get my very best from start to finish.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooh this is hard! There is quite a bit to do in Rochester. I think we would probably go for a hike at one of the many parks around town, whether it be Mendon Ponds, Highland Park, or a little further out Letchworth. Or we would walk the pier at Charlotte. We would definitely go downtown and get coffee at either Glen Edith or Ugly Duck. We would also try some fun restaurants. There are so many options that even I haven’t been able to try.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family are the ones who encouraged me to take a shot with my cake business. I have baked for family and friends for as long as I can remember. However, at the time my baking and decorating got noticed, I was working in the school system. I did both jobs for awhile until I couldn’t anymore. I had to choose. I really struggled with leaving the comfort of having a steady job. I was encouraged to try my business for a year and if it doesn’t work then I can go back. I took the leap into my business and have not looked back.
