We had the good fortune of connecting with Mindy Lundy Kramer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mindy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
What a great, timely question for our collective experience at the moment! For so many years, telling the story of a couple through still imagery was what I did as a wedding photographer. Being able to anticipate their needs, intuit their desires and anticipate any problems before they occurred was a necessary skill for that line of work, and I have benefited greatly this year from building that skill–as have my clients. I shifted my talents to work as a Brand Photographer and Brand Marketing Manager for Fancy Tiger Crafts, and began only a few months before quarantine began in Denver. When the city was getting shut down, we–like so many other businesses–were initially unsure of how best to respond to this unprecedented crisis. How to shift the business and continue to be able to pay the wages of our struggling staff, as well as meet the needs of our customers who were in just as much distress. Proactively, I started gathering information on how to make masks, began writing blogs, and reached out to new outlets and partners in the city. How could our store help? Shortly thereafter, the Governor of Colorado started a task force group for mask making called The Colorado Mask Project, in which our store became an essential resource. My photographs of masks were used in local media outlets for this task force which led to further publicity for Fancy Tiger Crafts in the community. That solved our immediate problem and kept our staff employed through lockdown, so I then reached out to other mask-making groups to find out how we could assist them to get them what they needed. I continued to move forward with the attitude of seeing solutions rather than problems, the same way I would anticipate the needs of my wedding couples. We created craft movies to connect people and encourage them to try something new, curated craft kits to help families struggling with children who were now schooling at home, and organized remote community events for much-needed socialization during isolation. My goal is for my business to create an image that inspires people, tells someone’s story, and connects people to one another. To serve my community this way is my ultimate aspiration.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is me just being me. I have found that I have great success at attracting clients by just being as authentically myself as I can! For example, when I was a wedding photographer, I put some of my ski shots in my portfolio and a groom said that’s why they decided to hire me! My clients were able to connect with me through my photography and I think this led to a better end result that left us all inspired and satisfied. I always say: “If you don’t want to be friends in the end, don’t work with me!” My clients are like family to me, and I love getting to know about them, their journey, their family, their favorite things to do, and who they are. My talent is storytelling through images, and this connection is what sets me apart!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
(Since we’re dreaming, this is a non-COVID itinerary!) First, you cannot beat breakfast at The Roadside Cafe, and we would load up on delicious breakfast and coffee to fuel the rest of the day. Second, Evergreen Lake–whether it’s a walk around it, paddle boarding on in or ice fishing or ice skating, it’s beautiful and an absolute must! If we’re lucky, we will even spot the local Elk herd! For an afternoon refuel, we would have to stop by Muddy Buck or Bivouac Coffee. Then do a bit of souvenir shopping in Downtown Evergreen. Finally, lunch and dinner at any of my local favorites: Murphy’s Mountain Grill, Revival Brewery, Creekside Cellars, Evergreen Brewery, El Rancho and Blackbird Cafe in Kittridge – you just can’t go wrong. Of course, if it was ski season, to the mountains we would go! If it’s summer, then a camping spot would definitely be on the list! Colorado is such a beautiful and varied place full of culture and history–it’s hard to narrow it down! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh man, there have been so many people that helped me get to where I am today! Of course, my family and friends who have always cheered me on have been an invaluable source of support. My first real mentor, Jack Affleck, holds a special place in my heart for his encouragement and insight in my journey. I was introduced to Jack by one of my professors at college, due to the fact that I was an avid skier and Jack, at the time, was the lead photographer for Vail Resorts. I still remember asking Jack to review my photographs in the following years after my internship, and getting a reply something along the lines of, “I am going to tell you the truth.” Jack’s unfailing honesty pushed me to be better and challenged me to be honest with myself at all times. To this day I am indescribably grateful for his impact in my career.
