Meet Munkhnaran Khandsuren | Scalp Therapy Head Spa Founder & Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Munkhnaran Khandsuren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Munkhnaran, how do you think about risk?
I believe real growth begins the moment you step into uncertainty. There’s a quote from Spider-Man that says, “With great power comes great responsibility,” and I’ve always connected that idea to entrepreneurship — because every opportunity comes with a decision: stay comfortable, or take the risk that could change everything.
Starting our head spa in Colorado was exactly that kind of leap. The concept is well-established in many Asian cultures, but still very new in the U.S., especially in markets like Colorado. Opening any business from scratch is already a risk — but introducing an entirely new wellness category requires even more commitment, education, and persistence.
While head spa services are gaining popularity in larger markets like California and Texas, Colorado is just beginning to discover the benefits and the role scalp health plays in overall wellness. That meant we weren’t just launching a business — we were helping introduce a new ritual and mindset.
On a personal level, I took this leap while pregnant with my daughter. It was a moment where I had to choose between staying in my comfort zone or stepping into something bigger — for both my career and my future as a mother.
Risk, to me, isn’t about recklessness. It’s about informed courage. Once you’ve done the work to understand your vision, you have to trust yourself enough to begin. Because only after you start do you learn how to adapt, grow, and truly reach the people you’re meant to serve.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As I mentioned earlier, introducing a brand-new concept to a new community takes time — and it takes people who believe in it. Our head spa was built completely from the ground up. We found the space, renovated it ourselves, developed the service menu, designed the workflow, and carefully selected the products we use. Everything was built with intention and heart, and that’s something I’m truly proud of.
For those unfamiliar, a head spa is a treatment that focuses on scalp health — combining deep cleansing, exfoliation, massage, hydration, and relaxation techniques. It supports hair growth, improves circulation, reduces buildup, relieves tension, and promotes overall wellness. The scalp is where so many nerve endings begin, yet traditional beauty routines often stop at the hairline. Our mission is to change that mindset and encourage people to treat scalp care as part of their regular self-care — just like a monthly facial.
What sets us apart is our commitment to quality over speed. Many service models are built around maximizing time efficiency, but we prioritize hands-on treatment and genuine care. Our service time is real, intentional time — focused on technique, connection, and results rather than just throughput. We believe building a strong foundation based on trust and experience creates long-term success, rather than chasing quick margins.
The journey to where we are today was not easy. Since the day we decided to open, I made sure to do at least one thing for the business every single day — even if it was as simple as handing out a business card. In the early stages, I became everything the business needed: marketer, designer, cleaner, social media manager, SEO learner, HR, and more. Being hands-on helped me understand every challenge our team might face, and that perspective shaped how we build our culture today.
We’re still in our early months, and visibility remains our biggest challenge. Awareness is everything when you’re introducing something new. We know that without our clients, we are nothing — their trust is what gives our work meaning.
What I want the world to know about our brand is simple: we may be early in this journey, but we are deeply committed to it. No matter how challenging things felt at times, we never stopped believing in the vision of making scalp wellness a normal part of everyday self-care.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado is such a beautiful place, so my itinerary would start with nature.
For a first-time visitor, the mountains are a must. I would take them on a scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park and spend time around some of the stunning alpine lakes like Bear Lake or Dream Lake. There’s something incredibly grounding about being surrounded by that kind of landscape.
Back in the city, I always recommend starting at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It’s not just a music venue — it’s one of the most breathtaking natural landmarks where you can take in both the beauty of the rock formations and the view of the city.
For something more unique, I’d include Meow Wolf Denver — it’s an immersive art experience unlike anything else, and one of only a few locations in the country. It’s playful, creative, and memorable.
I also enjoy quieter spots like Lookout Mountain for reflection and calm. And while I’m not typically drawn to zoos, I appreciate that the Denver Zoo is home to animals like the two-humped camel and Mongolian wild horse — species that connect me to my roots and homeland.
Another fascinating experience is visiting local yurt (ger) stays in Colorado. As someone from a nomadic culture, I love seeing this connection to a more sustainable, nature-centered way of living being embraced here. It’s a beautiful reminder that mobility and harmony with the land have long been part of human history.
To round out the trip, I’d include a hike to Hanging Lake — one of the most stunning and rewarding trails in the state.
Overall, my goal would be to show a balance of Colorado’s wild beauty, creative spirit, and cultural connections — the things that make it feel both adventurous and meaningful.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who deserve recognition because every step I’ve taken has been shaped by someone who believed in me before there was proof.
First, I want to thank my business partner and close friend, Madison Leslie. She saw potential in me at a time when my life was about to completely change — I was on the verge of giving birth — and still trusted me enough to build something meaningful together. I actually began my journey working with her at Kingsmen Barbershop in a support role, and within a short time she encouraged me to step into a bigger vision. Her mentorship and belief in me helped turn the idea of opening a head spa into a reality.
I’m also endlessly grateful to my husband, Tuvshin “Tuka” Tsagaankhuu. He has been my quiet strength through every decision — the kind of support that doesn’t always get recognized but makes everything possible. Having a life partner who believes in your vision gives you the courage to move forward, especially when the path feels uncertain.
My parents, Urtnasan Dorjsuren and Khandsuren Tseveen, also deserve a special shoutout. They traveled all the way from Mongolia to help care for my daughter so I could focus on building this business. They raised me with discipline, resilience, and a strong work ethic — and now they continue to support me by helping create the stability I need to grow.
And finally, I want to recognize our early team members, Jenna, Boolo, and my friend Oyu, who stood with us from day one — even when we had zero clients and no brand recognition yet.
The common thread between all of these people is that they chose to believe in potential rather than numbers. They took a chance on something that didn’t yet exist — and that kind of trust is priceless.
