We had the good fortune of connecting with Arbol Farmers Market Team and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arbol Farmers Market Team, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
In our industry, there is a unique experience being held of all farmers coming together. But that for each farmer and producer, there is a body of work that goes from seed to sale that is a process requesting months of work before it even appears at the farmer’s booth. From ordering seeds in the winter, planting in February, harvesting, weeding and selling throughout season. There are many hands and resources that go into the process. It’s a huge commitment and labor of love that is brought to the community in a very humble way; how much intention has been put into this moment that’s manifested to share during one day of the week at the farmers market. There is such a beautiful backstory to get to this place.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The Learning Council is a local non-profit that spearheaded the Arbol Farmers Market. Everything we do is a step by step process; everyday is a creative process where we are in the flow and other days where we are swimming upstream. Like other groups doing farmers markets, we really respond to the community needs and that makes for a variety of branches of our work. We get to have a lot of fun in our service, including the dance and movement classes, getting people of all ages involved, working with farmers in food equity and ensuring people get the highest quality food and advocating for underrepresented populations and working towards the kind of world we want to live in.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In our town, we’d suggest coming to the Arbol Farmers Market on Tuesday evenings, from 5-8pm at Paonia Town Park! The Learning Council prepares a nutritious and local meal served with over 80% local produce from farmers in the North Fork Valley. These farm to table meals are cooked and served by our volunteers and always made with love.
Our town is so special to navigate on foot or bike. Before hitting the road, we’d suggest getting their bike tuned up at the Paonia Bike Co-op.
Stop by the Learning Council on Grand Ave to meet the team and see upcoming and local community events. We have great dance classes, agricultural workshops and cooking classes.
We always recommend planning farm and wine tours to get a taste and feel for the work and dedication from local producers!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to share out shout out to all of the Farmers, Ranchers and Producers at the Arbol Farmers Market! They are the heart of the market and they make it possible for our community to eat local, organic, quality foods and support local and sustainable agriculture!
