We had the good fortune of connecting with Nanci Kezar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nanci, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
In the apparel industry, we find that most manufacturing companies are less interested in the care of their employees and their impact on our ecosystem than Tailored West, Inc.
We would love to educate the public on the destructive truths of the impact of “Fast Fashion” on our environment.
We always love to honor our dedicated team members and partners while we educate, elevate and encourage them in their abilities.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The road to beginning Tailored West, Inc. is long and winding.
I fell in love with fabrics as a tiny girl and began exploring sewing at age 4. I loved to iron, I loved the fragrance of fabrics under the heat of the iron and as my skills developed, I became aware of the absolute beauty of perfect stitches and details! Next was embroidery and I went wild making Christmas gifts. I couldn’t get enough and the more challenging the better I felt, so I began to take on extreme challenges. At the age of 17 I was sewing Couture and Wedding attire professionally.
Other mediums appealed to me and I explored everything from macrame to Interior designs of entire homes. Later I learned floral design, I then began painting and was commissioned to do huge extensive murals.
All this time, my eye was developing, my confidence was growing, my ability to communicate was improving. I was beginning to incorporate the desires of my heart into a look that was true to the strength I love in those who persevere.
I began defining who the Tailored West Customer was and the rest is told in pictures and many years of perfecting a standard American fit. I design for the American Woman and her size is unique as is her heart.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would love if she came in the winter so we could ski at Crested Butte. We would rent a Chateau and do all of our own cooking as I LOVE to cook.
If she came in the fall, we would just drive from beautiful site to beautiful site and do a lot of hiking and pack picnic lunches and take in the Meeker Sheep dog/cattle dog competition along the way and end up in Cañon City and ride the Royal Gorge Train and take in the sites at the Royal Gorge, Taillred West included!
A summer visitor I would insist we go to the Pike Peak or Bust rodeo.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My introduction to the love of sewing began with the Pennington County 4-H program in Northern Minnesota. I want to honor all Leaders and Volunteers everywhere who share their time and talents with the youth in their community!
Next are the dedicated Teachers in our school systems. For me, so many Teachers saw my gifts and were open and encouraging.
Next is Tailored West, Inc. Employees. Over the years, so many have contributed to our growth, and I have learned immeasurable lessons from them.
I complete this by most importantly mentioning the thousands of words of encouragement from our loyal Customers!
