Meet Nick Gilbreath | Head Coach and Owner- Sup Town CrossFit

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Gilbreath and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After graduating from the Colorado School of Mines in 2006 with a degree in civil engineering I worked in the field for about 5 years. I didn’t hate what I did but I soon realized that I never wanted to have any of my bosses jobs. I was always looking for ways to get into the fitness industry so when a chance to open a personal training gym arose in 2011, I jumped at the opportunity. It was definitely a fake it until you make it situation but I learned a lot from that business as well as working for another large gym from 2016-2019. In 2017 I started coaching CrossFit and realized I could help a lot more people by coaching classes and also what a great business model CrossFit could be. My business partner and angel investor Jamie Shapiro asked me in May 2019 if I wanted to open my own CrossFit gym and by December, Sup Town CrossFit was open for business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Owning your own business is never easy but is the second most fulfilling thing in my life besides my wife and kids. I enjoy going to work and helping as many people as possible every single day. There are a lot of great CrossFit gyms and coaches so I am always trying to become a better coach and gym owner to improve our members experience. I believe someone should join Sup Town CrossFit because they truly enjoy coming in and spending an hour with me and the other members, not just because we are the most convenient gym for them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is the best state in the USA, no question. If it is summer time I would suggest a hike near Golden followed by hanging out and getting some lunch by Clear Creek. Catching a Rockies night game at Coors game is always a great time, especially if #58 Lucas Gilbreath (my nephew) is pitching. My two favorite mountain towns are Frisco and Crested Butte regardless of the season.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife Angela has been my greatest supporter since we met in 2008. She is also the best at playing devils advocate and pointing out every situation that could happen since I always assume everything will just work out. She has moved to multiple states because of my job changes and was supportive when I quit a good paying job in engineering to be a personal trainer with zero clients. Also, pretty much everyone in my life has been very supportive of the choices I have made, especially in business. Friends and family have always been my first members and clients and the fact that they trust me with their health and fitness means the world to me.
