We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Sloan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Nick has always owned his own business’, it is seemed natural for us to start something together. All American Reptile & Plant Expo began out of a necessity. Colorado had lost its biggest expo and we had been considering combining Reptiles and Plants in one trade show for a while, so we went for it!

What should our readers know about your business?
We are a Reptile and Plant trade show/ Event. What sets us apart from other Reptile shows, is the emphasis on education and included activities. We want a day, or two, at the show to be exciting and worthwhile for all of our patrons that come through the door! It wasn’t easy getting here, it takes a lot of coordination and planning. People aren’t always receptive to something so new. Especially if it costs more than the usual. Many hours of outreach and face to face has helped to get vendors signed up. The biggest lesson we’ve learned along the way is every person is living their own story. We would hope that our brand would be recognized as an educational resource, a weekend getaway and a successful show for vendors to attend.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Colorado for a week there is a lot to do! We love to eat and play. Some of the restaurants we would visit are, Edo Higan, West Main Taproom + Grill, Urban Egg a Daytime Eatery, Union an American Bistro, Perry’s, Seasons 52, too many for a week! The Denver Zoo is one of the best that you could visit, especially being interested in Animals. The incline, Castlewood canyon, Lookout Mountain. Or lives also revolve around 2 children under 2, so good parks and ice cream are a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s many people that have inspired us to move forward in this business. Some of the biggest support we have received is from Robyn at Redline Shipping and JT at Reptichip. Both have supported our business as soon as it began.
