We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Hepler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My practice provides a safe and accessible space for healing and growth for individuals and families. Whether someone is working through past trauma, wanting to manage their chronic illness more effectively, needing healthier emotion regulation skills, or improving communication with their partner, when they reach their goals in therapy, they are able to live healthier, more fulfilling lives. Healthier individuals contribute to healthier communities. When individuals and families are able to break unhealthy generational cycles, this can contribute to a more hopeful future for society.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Awakening Serenity Counseling provides accessible counseling services in the Central Park neighborhood of Denver. My business name was chosen very intentionally to represent transformation, new beginnings, contentment, and peace. I believe that the potential for that lies within all of us, we just may need some support and healing along the way to get there. I am passionate about helping individuals and families find healing and empowerment to live their lives authentically.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite self-care activities is trying new restaurants and coffee shops, and Denver has tons to choose from! I love taking out of town visitors to the Stanley Marketplace – there are so many amazing shops and restaurants there, and it is such a unique building with a lot of interesting history behind it. My go-to restaurant is Annette at the Stanley Marketplace. No matter what you order, you are guaranteed to have an incredible meal.

I also love taking visitors to a Rockies game during baseball season – games are so much fun, and there are incredible views of the sunset from the upper levels of the stadium.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today without the endless support of my family, especially my husband. I am incredibly thankful for his trust and confidence in me, and his support while I pursue my dreams. My daughter has also played a large role in transforming my perspective and inspiring me to make the leap into owning my own practice.

I would not be the clinician I am today without the clinical supervisors I have had along the way, particularly Sarah Spurlock. The years of guidance and teaching, particularly during my training have informed my clinical and business approaches in countless ways.
