We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a stay at home mom to two toddlers, and coming from a corporate HR background, I was looking for purpose outside of my role as Mom. I tried lots of things and ultimately needed a creative outlet. Since I started making stained glass over two decades ago, I already knew I had the skills, but wasn’t sure there was a need. But I went with it and sure enough, people love it! When something feels fun and somewhat easy it just flows. So here I am with almost a year of selling under my belt. The best part is I can accomplish my goals around my kids schedule!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I was young I was always creating. Whether it was jewelry I would sell door to door, painting, music, there was always something. In high school I found stained glass and was completely obsessed. Although I love many different mediums of art, I didn’t see a lot of quality stained glass and I decided to take a chance on creating a business around it. Although I’m in the beginning stages, I have a goal to expand to be able to teach others the skills of stained glass. If it wasn’t offered as a course in my high school, I doubt I would’ve ever thought it was something I could learn. I would love to be able to pass it on to others!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Universal is my absolute favorite breakfast/ brunch spot. (Get the cornbread rancheros). The Marquis for music, and I love all of the museums; Botanical Gardens, Denver Museum of Nature and Science, The Zoo, The Aquarium… Garden of the Gods and Rockey Mountain National Park aren’t too far either! Also, Chautauqua holds a special place for me, the restaurant, music, or hiking.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to two people. One, my husband, Adam for truly allowing me the opportunity to focus on my children and pushing me to pursue my passions. If it weren’t for his support I don’t know if I would be following my heart in the same way. The second is my Dad. For as long as I can recall he has told me I should be making my art for a living. Once he and my husband were echoing the same sentiment, I decided maybe I am good enough for this. My Dad is the most creative and artistic person and I definitely get it from him! I would also have to say I have the most incredible friends and family outside of these two who have supported me in all my endeavors and I am so grateful for the people in my life!
