We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Neu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When it comes to risk, I overlook all of the positive outcomes and negative as well. I do this because it helps me see how high the risk is and if the consequence will be worth taking the “leap of faith”. Risk to me is a key factor to future and present success, and a key part of life. Without risk, your life will become very limited, which is why taking a risk to me is a good thing no matter the outcome. My past risks I have taken, always taught me how to better myself in business and my personal life as well. When I first became a photographer, I remember having zero camera equipment and very little knowledge, and outside of that, I knew growing my name was going to be hard. I decided to take the risk and spend almost all of my money on a new camera and equipment, but with this, I also needed the knowledge. I was generally a more introvert type of person, so I decided to go out to new places, which lead me to meeting other photographers who gave me more exposure and the knowledge I needed to advance my career and build a business. With this risk, I had a more positive effect on my life, rather than negative. I did have one consequence from that risk and it was a financial one. It taught me to always invest in myself no matter what, because the hard work will pay off. With the realization of my outcomes based on my actions, I have had negative consequences teach me take certain subjects in a more professional approach.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My Name is Richard Neu, and I am a young photographer in south Florida. Growing up in south Florida, there was always competition in the photography world. I mainly started with automotive photography, which is mainly what the average photographer started with in my area and surrounding areas. Since I knew this, I realized standing out would be a challenge I would have to beat and succeed in. I set myself apart from others by capturing pictures from a different perspective. For example, a picture of a bridge in my area is pretty simple to take for a photographer of any level. So for me I would travel all up and down my coast and surrounding areas to gain different advantage points and rather different angles than what other photographers in the area would take. I also try to keep my editing more realistic, rather than a more aggressive style of editing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a best friend visiting, the first place I would bring them is to Hutchinson island to show them the other side of Martin County Florida. Hutchinson Island is full of many beautiful, different, and unique beaches. For the first couple of days I would show them all the local spots filled with art and greenery. I would start on the South side of the island first, then make our way up north to downtown Fort Pierce. Hutchinson Island is the first barrier island, followed by the second island named Sewall’s point. So, the First beach I would visit with my friend would have to be Stuart Rocks, which is a great surf shot and a really photogenic area to be in, filled with gorgeous clear blue water. After that We would make our way, north, up the coast, to a restaurant called Shuckers. Shuckers has been in business for a long time and is great place to grab a drink beachside with some great food to match with the ocean views. After grabbing drinks, we would make our way back down to historic downtown Stuart. Downtown Stuart is one of the most historic places in Martin County, filled with antique shops, bars, and mid to high end restaurants. After checking out the beaches and downtown Stuart the first couple of days, I would then plan to take my friend to a car show in Palm Beach, which is a 30 minute drive from Martin County. The Event is called Cars n Coffee West Palm Beach. Since me and my best friend are both very into the automotive industry it would be a great place to connect with new people and see the craziest vehicles Florida has to offer. Such as Muscle, Exotic, hyper, Japanese, and super cars. After heading back up to Stuart, I would take my friend out on a boat called the Tiki Taxi, which is a floating bar in Port Salerno, which is the eastern side of Martin County. The ferry takes you to the mount of the river, giving you great views of the blue inlet and the surrounding islands in the river. As we make our way back to the dock, I would treat my friend to dinner at the twisted tuna, which is a seafood restaurant directly next to the tiki taxi. The Twisted Tuna is always full of many different types of people on Friday nights and has many types of live music. For the Remainer of the week, Towards the end of the week I would plan a boat trip to go offshore fishing. Off the coast of Stuart the fishing is amazing, and carries many big game fish, such as tuna, sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and Tuna. I would say this would be the highlight of their trip because going on the boat in Stuart has so much to offer. After catching fish all day, we would then head back to the infamous Stuart Sandbar, to enjoy some beers on the water and hangout with my friends in the area. Before my friend leaves town, the last thing we would do is go on a drive on all of the scenic roads in the Martin County area. A few of the roads we would explore, would have to be Skyline road, Located in Jensen Beach; The Banyan Tree Road, in Stuart; and Bridge Road, in Hobe Sound Florida. These roads are great because the all lead to interesting place that are filled with interesting people. Overall, I would say Martin County is Great location for a week long vacation. Due to its beautiful scenery, beaches, and restaurants. Out of everything, the most fun thing to me is exploring all the in’s and out’s of my area and surrounding areas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As a relatively newcomer to the creator industry, I strive to learn whatever I can every day in order to advance my job and future business. Giuliano Odeh, a good friend of mine, is the guy I’d like to give credit to. Who also happens to be a professional photographer. This person was important in igniting my desire to become a creative. From mastering long exposure photography to being in a variety of situations. From rain to temperatures below zero, he has assisted me in learning various settings and how to interpret varied environments. I’d also like to thank my family for always being supportive of my selective judgments, no matter what the circumstances were. I’ve always been free because of them.
