We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Pineda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, how do you think about risk?
I call myself a wanderer, others will say risk taker (wink wink). I see it more like a curiosity of the unknown with the knowledge of my own foundation to know my strengths and weakness as I adventure into whatever “it” may be. I will asterisk that statement by saying there is still tons to learn. These adventurous wanderings have all added value to my life and career. You cannot have a lush garden without the sun AND the rain. Risk also takes you out of your comfort zone and sharpens your adaptability and diversity tools. Overall by taking risks, your senses become heightened, your observation skills tend to expand since you are typically placing yourself in a new environment, and you gain personal insight to your variations of flow, fight or flight and stillness. When making business decisions this mental equip are important for balance and success. By following my flow and its love for art seen through flowers, I smile at seeing where this risk is taking me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My company, House Of Petalis derived its name from my love of couture fashion, architecture, design, color, poetry and florals. The goal with every conversation is to be able to have someone comfortably purge their ideas to me in however they see it and collaboratively we manifest their vision. Bridging spaces with ideas, paying attention to tone, vibrancy, texture detail, story cohesion and proper presence feel are all important elements I love to incorporate for my clients. My job is to help people land in their inspiration. This started as a hobby. I intentionally explore museums, gardens, nature etc solo as my decompress. I organically come home and make arrangements influenced by what I observed. It started catching on. One bouquet led to one event which led to two etc. This was fun and then like all hobbies that begin to involve money can sometimes do to a person, over analyzing, factoring in pay to a higher level of patience in maneuvering difficult clientele, I got scared and closed myself off to the outside world. I didn’t have the tools yet to keep it fun and monetize properly. I was in technical recruiting and so focused the energy there with various event management outlets in the workplace to keep that side of my brain occupied.
Divine intervention with the shifts in tech recruiting and now the damn that was holding the creative flood back has cracked open and here I am. I still do dapple in tech recruiting as my brain has both sides fired up and that keeps me balanced, but I’m noticing more and more those skills folding into the continued growth of House Of Petalis. It’s honestly been trial and error and leveraging the expertise of those around me. It’s been an adventure and I get more excited with every turn.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Confession: I am a 2.5 year Colorado transplant with deep family roots in Pueblo, CO. That being said, from my experience thus far I would definitely take my best friend out to Telluride, get an AirBnB and just wander the area for a few days. The drive to there alone would give some great views of CO. Upon returning to the Denver area, we would walk around the Santa Fe Arts district and peep into the vintage shops on Broadway. A Nuggets game makes for a fun evening if it’s the season and some of my favorite places to eat include Carbon Carbon on Broadway, Olivia on Downing, Angelo’s Taverna on 6th, and a classic burrito from Los Carboncitos on Pecos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is a great question with a loaded answer. To drill down, I’d summarize by saying my culture, my heritage. This includes my Bay Area Latin roots, influences, lessons and surroundings from family and friends (a multicultural bunch). I am humbled and grateful everyday. To shoutout specific individuals, I would have to say hands down my grandparents. They were my stability growing up with divorced parents. They demonstrated daily, unconditional love, grace, class, morals, the importance of family and quality friends, and the strong backbone that is a part of my DNA. Without their strength and softness I would not be who I am today. I am fortunate to still enjoy conversations with my grandfather as an adult and the candid sound wisdom is priceless. My parents also deserve a good nod. Both are opposites of each other however the fight they carry has definitely pulled me through some difficult times in my life.
