We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Wheat and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As an Esthetician I knew I eventually wanted to branch out on my own and start my own business. I love everything about esthetics and most importantly the WHY behind skin concerns and disorders. The biggest part of my business is being able to educate my clients and give them the resources they need to achieve their skin goals.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ll be the first to say it hasn’t been easy! Trying to find exactly what my niche is in the esthetic world has been a challenge but also such a positive learning opportunity. I’ve had plenty of highs and lows, but I’m growing everyday and learning so much.

Going into my business I knew I wanted my brand to reflect some of the things I love outside of esthetics, that being animals. I’ve been an animal lover my whole life, but within the last 5 years I developed a deep passion for horses, specifically rescue horses. After spending many hours working around, training with, and volunteering with horses, I knew I wanted to help educate the public and allow for a certain percentage of profits go towards horse rescues in my area. Not only that, but I plan to partner with a skincare line that owns and operates off of a farm animal sanctuary. Their products feature batch numbers that can be traced to which animal it helped to fund or rescue on their website. I believe what sets me apart from other esthetic businesses, is my ability to bring an entirely different passion of mine, into the esthetic world and change the lives of horses in need.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a lover of all things outdoors, but especially in the mountains. If I had a friend in town, I would definitely treat them to one of my favorite spots; Pepper’s Fireside Grille in Firestone for lunch.

I would most definitely look into current concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater as it’s a one of a kind concert venue.

I would plan to spend a few days in Estes Park. There’s so much to do from shopping downtown, fishing, white water rafting, hiking, Rocky Mountain National Park, and of course, seeing the Elk.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents and my boyfriend have been my biggest supporters during this whole process. I can’t thank them enough for all of their love, support, and guidance.

My dad has been a successful business owner since he was 19 years old. He paved the way on what it means to be a hard worker, and excel in business. I’m so unbelievably grateful for all of his guidance and support. My business name, Heartland Esthetics is in honor of my dad.
