We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Kuchem and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anthony, what matters most to you?
For me, trust isn’t just a value; it’s the cornerstone of my business. Drawing from my decade-long background in education, where I learned the importance of absolute trust, I find a parallel in the realm of home inspections. Families entrust me with the crucial task of assessing the safety and suitability of their potential homes, a responsibility I don’t take lightly. This unique trust bestowed upon my business before clients even meet me underscores the gravity of our role in the industry.
I also believe that trust is and strong relationships are long-term, not transactional. Owning a home can be challenging for anyone, and I’ve found that many people in my generation are not always skilled at home maintenance and care. Still, most homebuyers are willing and eager to learn. I’m passionate about empowering individuals with knowledge, so I invite all clients to attend the entire inspection. By actively encouraging questions and engaging clients in understanding the intricacies of their future homes, I empower them with knowledge, improving the quality of their home ownership. Adopting the role of a home-owning consultant rather than a one-time advisor, I remain available for advice long after the inspection is complete. This consultative approach ensures that my clients not only receive a thorough and detailed inspection but also have a continued resource to support them in their home ownership journey.
By prioritizing trust and seamlessly integrating educational insight, a consultative approach, and epic service, I aim to redefine the home inspection experience and use my passion for education to improve homeownership. It’s my unwavering commitment to elevate the standards of our industry and empower every homeowner with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their most significant investment, fostering a culture of informed and confident homeownership.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting to where we are today in the real estate landscape wasn’t a walk in the park. It demanded grit, determination, and an unwavering commitment to delivering the best service experience possible for every client and realtor partner. While I brought knowledge of houses and people, venturing into entrepreneurship and running a small business felt like uncharted territory. So, I surrounded myself with people who were experts in their field, including mentors in both real estate and home inspections. I devoured podcasts, delved into books, and spent countless hours learning how to build and grow business and brand. This journey has taught me that success isn’t just about hard work; it requires a clear vision, continuous learning, adaptability during hardship, and a robust support network. A little bit of luck doesn’t hurt either.
On this journey, a vital lesson emerged, drawing inspiration from Will Guidara’s “Unreasonable Hospitality.” While it’s crucial to strive for excellence in becoming the best inspector and pushing industry boundaries, the essence lies in exceeding expectations and providing an unmatched experience. Every decision, whether seemingly significant or mundane, gains importance when made with intention. Intentionality involves thoughtful actions, a clear purpose, and a focus on the desired outcome. It’s about doing things deliberately, without losing the element of fun. Don’t take yourself too seriously, and remember to enjoy the process. Look at clients as individuals, not just paychecks.
Our brand, Coal Creek Home Inspections, goes beyond providing a service—it’s a commitment to redefine the home inspection experience. In a world increasingly commercialized, where small inspection businesses are swallowed up by insurance giants and national repair conglomerates, we strive to embody the warmth and personalized service of a small family-run business. We want the world to know that choosing us means gaining a trusted partner in their homeownership journey—a partner dedicated to unparalleled service, ongoing support, and empowering every homeowner with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their most significant investment.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’re sticking around my neck of the woods, Louisville, CO. First, grab coffee, avocado toast, and a pastry at Moxie Bread Co. If you are looking for a sit-down breakfast, go across the street to the Huckleberry. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, go for the Stuffed French Toast. If you’re feeling like something savory, I’ve tried every scramlette, and they’re all fantastic. If you’re on the move, order a breakfast burrito by calling ahead to Loco Hermanos—try the Big Poppa, you will NOT be disappointed.
Next, take a gander down the Coal Creek Trail, soak in the views at Davidson Mesa Trail, or enjoy some family time at Cottonwood or Memory Square parks. If you’re craving something a bit more “Colorado,” hop over to Eldorado Canyon State Park for great trails and awesome views of the Front Range. If you’ve got more time, head down to Golden Gate Canyon State Park. It’s a gem but has become more popular, so get there early.
Then, take a stroll through downtown Louisville. Grab food anywhere you like—nothing will disappoint. Lulu’s BBQ and 12Degree Brewing always have my vote, but hit up 740 Front if you want something a bit more upscale. Or, go casual at Crystal Springs Brewing Co (absolutely get the Blood Orange Kolsch or the N/A Root Beer) and order takeout from Cultivate Kitchen. Then, walk over and get some ice cream from Sweet Cow. Everything is delicious, but their dairy-free options are some of my favorites. Get two scoops and try a few flavors.
Finally, wrap up your evening at The Louisville Underground for some live entertainment or Tilt Pinball for some arcade action. Kids are welcome, so go earlier with the family or later for a better adult experience. And please, please, finish at Nora’s Speakeasy. By now I’ve tried the entire menu, and their take on the classics are inspiring, and their N/A cocktails leave nothing to be desired. Although they’re fairly new to Louisville, they are quickly making their mark.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe my entire success to my amazing wife, Rachel. While I’ve had incredible support from friends and family, Rachel has been my rock every step of the way. Transitioning from a stable W2 job to entrepreneurship and running a small business demands significant time, energy, and resources. From the very first conversation about making this shift, Rachel has been nothing but encouraging. Her steadfast support and belief in my vision have been the driving force behind my journey, and I credit much of our success to her unwavering commitment.
