We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Mcdaniel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, how do you define success?
For me, success isn’t about arriving somewhere or chasing a certain outcome. I feel most successful when I use my energy in ways that feel aligned and energizing, when I move through my own fears and perceived limitations, and when I honor my own instincts and desires.

Using my energy in ways that feel aligned and energizing can look a million different ways depending on the day. It can be having powerful conversations with a client or facilitating a women’s circle, but it can also be laughing with a friend or volunteering in my kids’ classrooms.

At my core, I know I’m here to use my creative energy to inspire, uplift, and connect people. Whether it’s through my work, the wisdom I share, or simply my presence, my goal is always to remind people of their wholeness and to bring them back over and over again to their own innate wisdom.

Success is a way of traveling, not a destination. I am constantly evolving, shedding, learning, and unlearning. The trick for me is to do the deep work without taking myself too seriously, to bring a certain amount of lightness and trust to the journey, and to allow myself to be present to all of it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What a journey it’s been!

I always knew that whatever work I did in the world would have to be creative in some way. Something in me just always wants to make everything beautiful.

I worked in the apparel industry for 14 years, and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I got to be creative and travel and connect with so many wonderful humans!

But my focus started really shifting in about 2019, when I dove deep into the world of personal growth and spiritual development. I gathered what I consider to be a pretty extensive seeker’s toolbox from a wide variety of sources and teachers, which I am constantly updating. I discovered the Human Design and Gene Keys systems and went deeper into astrology. Eventually I couldn’t ignore the call to enter into the spiritual space. I had been offering what was in essence spiritual coaching to almost everyone in my life, it was lighting me up, and I was getting great feedback!

So I still get to be creative and make things beautiful – but now it’s about helping people make their lives more beautiful, and it’s about creating beautiful spaces in my circles where women can feel seen and loved and supported – which in turn makes my life infinitely more beautiful!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My ideal visit would happen in the fall, when the weather is perfect and the leaves are turning. My favorite things about living in Colorado are always connected to nature and being outside, so we would go on lots of hikes in Boulder, walk around Pearl Street, and eat at the Dushanbe Tea House. In Louisville, where I live, there are always sweet things going on – we’d visit the farmers’ market or a local festival, have brunch at The Huckleberry, and make sure we get ice cream from Sweet Cow. We would take in the views at Acreage in Lafayette and do their sunset yoga. We would definitely go to a show at Red Rocks. And if we want to go a little farther out, we could visit Estes Park or do a leaf-peeping day trip to Summit County.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have been a part of my journey!

My husband has been a constant source of support, my forever cheerleader, best friend, and teammate for going on 22 years.

My mother encouraged and nurtured my creative life when I was young, and for that I am eternally grateful.

Motherhood broke my heart wide open and catalyzed my growth in ways that have been absolutely breathtaking (and also incredibly unbearable at times!). My two children inspire me to do better and be better in all the ways. My doula and the new mamas that I circled with in those early months of motherhood inspired me to do the deep work and facilitate the women’s circles that I do today.

The work of Nicole Sachs, LCSW changed my life and was hugely influential early on in my spiritual development. And as cliche as it may sound, Oprah has felt like my fairy godmother along the journey, too!

I am blessed with a beautiful circle of women that I can go to for support, laughter, and connection. We want goodness and joy for each other, and we remind each other of our beauty, wholeness, and worthiness whenever we forget.
