We had the good fortune of connecting with Orel Zwiebel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Orel, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is a constant theme in my life, continually evolving and harmonizing the world I live in. I believe it’s our well being, it’s how we thrive. Copious factors come into play when it comes to finding a powerful balance that sustains you. There is no perfect balance, it’s something that ebbs and flows, changing over time. I quickly learned this after my girls were born. It has changed the way I view the hours in the day. How I view myself. I made small changes and found myself managing my time better. Finding creative ways to level up my day, so that I can feel stable and nourished. Who knew you could accomplish so much before sunrise!
As my girls became more and more independent, I made the time to do the things I love the most, even if it was catching up with a friend over a cold beer. It’s the little things!
I do my best to do a daily check in. I usually ask, “what do I need today in order to show up fully for myself and others?” It’s usually simple things, such as; taking a walk or any form of movement, getting creative, making some delicious food, spending time with people I love, seeing live music and getting plenty of rest. In order to create balance in your life, it’s so important to carve out time for yourself, it’s essential!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Holding space for others is my passion, I’m always looking for creative ways to improve my offerings and use my versatility to help others grow. To give them a comfortable, safe and fun space to be themselves. I have a tendency to be over-the-top generous and lead with my heart. This can bring up challenges for me at times, but I believe it allows me to show up fully present for my people. It’s who I am. My yoga offerings have evolved over time. When I started my yoga business, it was thorny at first. I wasn’t sure about the direction I was going, so I decided to try everything. I realized that the yoga I wanted to offer didn’t have a name and couldn’t be put in a box. I wanted to offer an experience that would have a long lasting, positive impact. I incorporated sound healing, aromatherapy, reiki and other healing modalities fused into a restorative and rejuvenating practice. It’s a total reset.
My focus is to make yoga accessible to everybody. I recently started teaching yoga and mindfulness at a local high school. As you can imagine, the students love savasana.
Before I started teaching yoga, I tried out a variety of small businesses, some fizzled and some did ok. Each one of them helped me get closer to my purpose, I learned from them and grew into the person I am today. I’ve picked up many “tools” along my journey and for that I am grateful.
Taking risks helps you step outside your comfort zone and many times you are blown away by what’s on the other side. Taking that first step will open up new doors and help you grow in positive ways. It can feel scary or intimidating, but fear is what tends to hold us back, it keeps us small. Someone once told me that “fear is excitement without the breath”, unless you are being chased by a lion, of course.
I’ve really enjoyed slowing down the last couple of years, focusing on connection and honoring my truth. I’m working on new projects and staying in a creative mindset, stay tuned!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooh this is fun, I love hosting out of town guests! We are in Lafayette, Colorado about twenty minutes east of Boulder. We have Waneka lake around the corner from our house, which has a beautiful view of the front range. Late afternoon bike ride to the lake and then ride down to Old town, which is a mile from our house. We’d stop in to our favorite taco spot in town, Teocali. They offer up a delicious marg and their tacos are on point, packed with flavor. Community is another local restaurant that we adore, their menu changes with the seasons and they are creative with their menu. Check out some great breweries in the Lafayette area, such as Odd13 and 4 Noses.
We would definitely take a day trip out to Red Rocks amphitheater. Either catch a show or hike around the park, you can even go down to the stage. It truly is a magical place.
In Boulder, there’s a little gem called Chautauqua park and has a stunning view of the Flatirons. The hike to the top is worth the magnificent view.
I’m sure we’d get hungry after all that hiking, so let’s head down to Pearl street. You’ll find some amazing restaurants and shops, but one of our latest favorites is New Yorkese, serving up Neapolitan pizza. Located on the top floor of Avanti, a modern day food hall, with a gorgeous outdoor area overlooking downtown Boulder and the Flatirons.
There are some amazing state and national parks out here, Rocky Mountain national park in Estes Park will be sure to stun your guests. There’s a big chance you’ll catch some wildlife, like moose.
Being Israeli, I crave a yummy pita with hummus and falafel, Safta in Denver nails it! Right up the road is one of our favorite places to see music, the Mission Ballroom.
I love to cook and bake, so I’ll make some yummy meals and bake sourdough bread. If it’s summer, the garden will be popping off with fresh veggies and herbs. We love spending time on the deck and soaking up the Colorado sun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout goes out to my family and friends who have supported me throughout the years. They are the reason i’m here today, doing what I love and inspiring others to do the same. They remind me that i’m on the right path and that there is no wrong turn. My daughters, who are now 9 and 12, are my true inspiration, they are my biggest teachers and help me stay grounded in everything I do. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without my husband, Matt. He’s always reminding me to do what makes me happy, to go all out and he will always be my favorite concert/dance partner. I’m also very grateful to my community of friends who encourage me to take risks and remind me to dance it out when things get tough. You know who you are and I love you all! Thank you!
