We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Maass Garrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I started my legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in Boulder, I wanted to protect those that were vulnerable.

One of my first cases as a DDA involved a tragedy, young parents were killed in a car crash leaving behind two young boys. I got to know the surviving family members. The family spent years in probate court fighting over who would raise the boys. The conflict could have been avoided if someone would have given this young couple access to basic legal planning tools.

Over the last twelve years as an attorney I have seen this story repeat itself many times. This inspired me to launch my law firm to stop this cycle and help parents put in place an estate plan to protect their kids and ensure their legacy. Recently, I published an international bestselling book, Legally Ever After, to simplify estate planning for parents.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own Law Mother, an estate planning law firm dedicated to helping parents, real estate investors and business owners protect their loved ones.

I am really excited that my new book, Legally Ever After has resonated and helped parents. Many of the legal planning books on the market are very complex or focus on elderly. This book was created for busy parents, who want to understand estate planning in terms they use and take actionable steps that will make a difference for their family

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We love taking our dogs and daughter to Chatfield Reservoir’s dog park. Our dogs are in paradise when they go, and we love the view of the water and foothills.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Becoming a new mom during the pandemic felt isolating. I was lucky to join a Mamistad moms group, which has helped me stay connected and supported.

Additionally, super grateful to my husband. In order to write this book, I had a weekly writing schedule and Saturday morning 630a zoom meetings with my book editor and I couldn’t have done it without his help and encouragement.
