We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Farrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting a meal prep/catering/personal chef business built on the foundation of my passion for cooking wholesome, made from scratch, and love based meals for all to be able to enjoy! After working in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, 6 of fine dining in Beaver Creek, Colorado. then working as a private chef in Nashville for a country musician and his family for a year and half, which after led me to returning to Boulder, Colorado and working as a sous chef. But once Covid hit I r found myself personal cheffing for multiple families. Now that I returned to my native city of Colorado Springs I wanted to share my culinary journey to others, again built on my love and passion for cooking and serving others! Putting smiles on bellies!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Cooking: is a dying art. So much of us, including myself growing up and sometimes these days lol, depend on many box, Chain style places to fuel ourselves with the essential nutrients it takes to make our bodies operate. Even in my restaurant industry life it was hard for me to escape this lifestyle. But truly it wasn’t til 2016 that I was diagnosed with brain cancer and a tumor that made me approach work life balance as well as appreciation for life and cooking the most. That sowed a seed in me to not only Per-sue this for myself but also others. So a lot of single, professional people don’t have the time to go shopping, prep, cook, sit down eat, and do dishes in their day so they resort to a quick “cheap” option. But with BEYOND THE KITCHEN we get to do all those things to allow you to do that without compromising for a low quality filler packed nutrient lacking meal that doesn’t truly fuel your body. Let us shop, prepare, cook, package. Simply ready to microwave/ or oven re-heat instructions for you to enjoy a “home made” whole food made from scratch wholesome meals for you, and your partner, or even family to enjoy in little time and less dishes to clean! Giving you more valuable time for you to enjoy life doing what you love most or the ones you love most!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For myself coming from the service industry I’m more interested in places that arnt as crowded or “trendy” so I’ll be more app to be outside hiking or hanging out in Garden of Gods, and Palmer park (crowded but outside lol) I also do enjoy going to eat at places like lucky dumpling for lunch, omelette parlor for breakfast, offurys for wings, Bjs velvet freez for a tasty treat. Watching a game I like Colorado sports Fanatics Kellie the bartender is the best, funny and great pours!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe all success is self driven. But like the saying “it takes a village” so many people have played a role in my story to get to be able to pursue what I love! The moral and participation of various ways of my family, have encouraged me to peruse my dream. But honestly the biggest mentor in my professional chef career is credited to a chef, David Gutowski, that I worked and learned under for close to 6 years in Beaver Creek. He held a standard that I now still try to hold my company to as far as quality, attention to detail, and serving the best you can do, to all guest (customers) and that’s the type of work ethic and “Love” that I want to be tasted in the food that I have the honor to serve to my consumers!
