We had the good fortune of connecting with P.J. Sierra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi P.J., what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor, in my opinion is the fact that I believe whole heartedly in my brand! I believe that if I can leave my artistic imprint in the world that some how this would all be worth it in the end and I can some how make a change in the world for the better!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is the core representation of my upbringing. The true eye inside of what represents me most. I am a reflection of 90’s Hip Hop culture. I wouldn’t have gotten this far without that soul and sound that it taught me! I’ve learned that not everyone is going to support you in the beginning,
when you are first starting out on your trek to becoming a full time artist, you have to be willing to brave the world on your own, the more you trust yourself the better off you are.
I want the world to remember that all of us artists are souls that are willing to share a piece of ourselves just to be noticed and hopefully make change!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Pueblo and this question is an easy one of course the first day would be spent touring around Pueblo looking at all the murals and artwork around town, some even that I have honorably taken part in creating. The places we would eat would be some places I’ve grown up frequenting for years like Do drop in for their world famous Pizza, but also new places like Shah’s gyros and Kabobs and dinner at Bistoro restaurant with a fun time at Downtown Bar after! We would spend the next day hopefully getting tattoos at one of the most prominent tattoo shops in Colorado known as Embellished tattoo. After hopefully grabbing a slopper from the riverside bar and grill because I love their green chile most. Next day We would make a trip to the gem in the San Isabel mountains known as “Bishop’s castle” and later on in the evening after a long day we would grab dinner at something local like the Shamrock.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think the people that deserve the most credit are the people that have stuck out their necks for me most. My parents foremost, my sister Tricia and her husband Adam for all their support, My shop owner and good friend Brian Sena and also good friend and hip hop supporter/promoter Javier Quiñones! These individuals have ushered me along with positive reassuring and among other things love and support!!
