We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariel Galvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ariel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say for me personally the most important factor behind my success is drive. The ability to keep showing up and trying my best even on the days that are hard. Having drive has been a blessing and a curse, it helps me stay on track to meet my goals, but it also constantly pushes me to make more goals, so I’m never truly satified with where I am at. I’m not sure if it’s the same for every artist, but I imagine based on conversations I have had with other photographers we are the most satisfied with our work in the moment the art is made, then after we master a new skill, or technique we cringe at our previous work. Although it can be demanding to constanly be driven to evolve and push myself outside of my comfort zone; I do believe it plays a role in my ability to increase quality, and continue to bring in new clients.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a posed newborn photographer, and I take great joy in creating lasting photographs for families to admire year after year! Baby’s grow up too fast, and they are also so little when they first join us earth-side, for me posed newborn is about capturing that moment in a way that is artistic, and also captures just how small they are in that moment. My journey into posed newborn photography is kinda funny, it was just a thing I decided to try out. I had no idea how much it would fit me, and how much I would love it. My journey stated 3 years ago, and for the most part has been easy. When I say it has been easy, I am specifically talking about the photography aspect. Creating comes very naturally for me, but the parts of my journey that have been challenging is time management. As a single parent and full time photographer, my first year has been filled with days that I work too much and then my kids suffer, or days that are perfect for my kids but then don’t allow anytime for work to get done. As I continue on in my photography journey I do my best to make small changes where I can to be in a better time management space, but it’s defiantly the most challenging part of my journey. I think what I want my clients or potential clients to know most about my story is that I am here creating because I love it. I am truly where I am meant to be, doing what I want to do, and that shows in the love and effort I put into each one of my sessions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, we would start breakfast at my go to spot – Mountain Shadows, it’s just an amazing breakfast! I would follow breakfast up with grabbing coffee at my favorite local coffee shop – Frankly Coffee

After breakfast and coffee, the next thing on my list is an adventure, season depends of course.

Some of my favorite adventures are hiking a 14er, 11 Mile Canyon, Garden Of The Gods, Red Rocks Open Space, Skiing, or visiting any mountain town!

I guess you could say the only must have in my ternary are a good breakfast, a good coffee, and then a great adventure!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think it’s too hard for me to pinpoint one specific person in my life who deserves the shoutout, everyone in my life played/plays a role in where I am out today. I thank all my parents, grandparents, and kids for their love and support! A little extra thanks to two people who influence me daily is my grandmother (Joanne) and my second mom (Linda). My grandma will help me on any day in any way she can, and she is defiantly my rock. My second mom was quite literally the only person in my family that I talked to, to nauseam about taking my photography business full time and she supported me fully without reservations to give it a go! Before I was a full-time photographer I was a government contractor making 6 figures, so most of my family had great reasons to be weary of me ( a single mom of three) leaving that stability to venture into self-employment. August 2022 marks my 1st year of running my business full-time. That 1st year I photographed over 150 newborns, and I have to thank her for giving me the validation I needed to take that chance on myself! I also want to take a moment to recognize my three kids, who are so wonderful and supportive! They wish me luck before each session and are very understanding of days that we don’t get to do all the fun things due to sessions or editing restraints. I love them, and for being the best kids a mom could have!
