We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Rohmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Before launching my company Sunset Ride, i was working as a key account manager for a big pharmaceutical group. My work balance was very stable as i was only working during the week, heading back home before 7.00pm. But i quickly realised that even though the work life balance was fine, that didn’t make me happy because working for such a huge company makes that you don’t see the final result of your tasks. Now working for my own makes me work much more during the nights or the week-ends, but i have never felt more useful and happy to wake up and work for myself ; being the engine of my own results.

Renting rare classic cars includes having a nice communication and beautiful photos to create a desire. I know that Sunset Ride creates here a big difference as i built my company around a complete concept, investing time and money to create a logo, a full communication design, and keeping in mind that today social networks are inevitable to be known by my future customers, and to let them see very quickly what they could get. Seeing nice photos creates this desire to be in this car, on this road, living the same moment ; and in the end brings me some new business. Another point that makes a difference : the way I interact with customers, my availability and my flexibility to make their experience unforgettable. I had the chance to live abroad from France for 10 years, and being open-minded about people and new professional experiences makes that i say “yes” to any interesting project, in order to expand my network and have people talk about me as much as possible.
I’m very proud of having been capable of dropping my confortable job to give myself a chance to live of what i love, and get that feeling back of being excited to do some beautiful and joyful events with nice cars. It’s not easy everyday as I now have to work hard to make money, without the security of my ancient position. But whatever the financial results i will get from this work, the experience and the pleasure are (for the moment), 100% worth the try.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The French Riviera is a nest of iconic and beautiful places. I have many friends & family that come for a few days to visit, and here is the perfect itinerary for a week-end :
1- Picking up your 1970 Mercedes 280SL Pagode at the airport
2- Drop your luggages at your hotel : the Negresco on the “Promenade des Anglais”
3- Walk around Nice on the first day, have lunch at “Le Chabrol” for very tasty typical french food
4- Take the Pagode to drive by the Mediterranean sea on the famous road “la basse corniche” heading to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and spend the rest of the day on the incredible “Paloma Beach” + have dinner there.
5- The next morning, drive to Eze-village to visit the old town and the botanic garden. Eat at “Restaurant Les Remparts” there, and then drive to the “Parc Naturel Départemental de la Grande Corniche” to admire the sunset from your car. Life is good.
6- Spend your last evening in Monaco, live your best life, and have a nice sleep before heading back home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
After 10 years working in pharmaceuticals, I felt like i needed a radical life change. I left Paris to live in Nice on the French Riviera, and started helping my friends from the “Sunny Speed Shop” to make some nice deals on cars they had at their showroom. They quickly encouraged me to shape my activity that i was doing just for fun until now : renting my personal classic car for weddings and private events. Here i am now thanks to them : leading my own company Sunset Ride, renting many classic cars for corporate events, seminars, photoshoots, cinema, and private events. All along this process and still now, my girlfriend is also the biggest asset to my motivation during the hard working days & nights i go through. Having a very solid couple and a comprehensive partner is, to me, a major key of success.
